I'm sorry, but doesn't Live 6! have that functionality?

Auto-slicing? Not in Live 6.

Uhm, i have an mpc 1k but believe me, i do that thing with FL Slicer, faster and better, multiple times if i need, changing slice 'depth' and number on the fly, is really more versatile, plus i got all my projects and all my hd full of samples at hand in fl, that's the fastest workflow i know, it takes a couple of minutes to see if a sample will fit, chopped up, with a groove.
je n'ai pas besoin de copier.

Do I need to plug in "Sampler"?

No. There is no auto-slicing in Live, period.

Battery 3 -- my mistake
Battery 3 imports Rex, Acid and AppleLoops(?) but it can't make them. It will separate out said loops into slices, though. I was under the impression they incorporated *all* of the features of "beat machine" mode in Intakt and Kontakt but it seems the left the ability to slice out. All the N-I sampling products kind of blur together in my head.

i think Phatmatik Pro is your best choice. it's relatively inexpensive. what you would want to do is slice the loop using beat detection, then quantize the notes. that way you have full control of the groove.

Download the demo and see how you like it. Ditto for Guru though it might be overkill.

Also: Cubase (almost all versions) has slicng built-in (detect transients, slice, re-quantize audio). And of course, you can slice on the timeline to metric values (i.e., 16ths, dotted 8ths, whatever) my holding modifier key (alt/opt) + scissors tool. I don't think Logic has beat detection but maybe i haven't noticed it in L7 yet. It will slice to metric values on the timeline just like Cubase, though.

Also: agree Fruity Loops is a good choice for this. The interface is odd/unique but very fast workflow if you enjoy it. FL can run stand-alone or as a VST - very smart feature.

i've never seen EnergyXT but sounds like it's worth a look
