Just begging for an update on the progress of 1.6...I'm still needing my Garritan Strad 2 and Truepianos for gigging purposes. Please spred some hope and expectations!

Obviously there's been no response...

I too am wanting this

Me too.... I've been waiting to get NI Komplete 3/4 installed on my Receptor since I bought it last December.

I've been beta testing K4 and OS 1.6 for the last week, and I'm happy to report it is ROCK SOLID, after getting through just a few hiccups. We are talking ALL of K4, including FM8, Absynth4 and Reaktor5 (though ElektricPiano is not the 1.5 update). Kontakt2 is the latest and the DFD works SOOOO much better than it ever has (granted some of this may be due to the larger 400GB drive I had installed, and the rev C upgrade I gave myself for Christmas). I can finally play a 13GB piano lib (SampleTekk 7CG) with 256 polyphony with NO GLITCHING and no maxing the CPU. We are talking huge Emerson piano runs with the sustain pedal down, and it's just freaking perfect. Likewise I loaded the 24-bit Scarbee KGB (Rhodes) and it's unbelievable how easy on the CPU it is now.

OS 1.6 has a couple of wrinkles to iron out, but all in all, I think everyone out there will be rewarded for their patience, especially fans of K4 and especially those who rely on Kontakt2 (which I can pretty much do an entire gig on now!)

Thanks for the report Hybernation. :tu:

Is there a list available of all O.S 1.6 improvements/fixes/implementations.
In other words what exactly is addressed in 1.6 ??

Post

Hi gang

No list on the official features that I can post, but I'm happy to let you in on what's coming.

V1.6 is primarily an "under the hood" update that facilitates some cool future updates that are on their way. Most of the improvements involve handling plug-in installation, with the big news being support for Komplete 4. Sounds trivial, I know, but it definitely wasn't.

There have been several improvements to sampler performance that are in 1.6, focussed around Kontakt, but also affecting ivory in a big way. We've substantially reduced CPU spiking with things like Kontakt, taken care of some sample load issues, and if you can believe, optimized Ivory even more than before (and made the changes necessary so that The Italian Grand can run).

Other than that, there are a ton of little fixes that improve overall performance and stability even further.

The coolest feature I think is a new feature for snapshots. It allows you to create snapshots as you normally do, but then assign one particular channel to send the "snapshot preset" program changes. The other MIDI channels can be assigned to send their preset changes DIRECTLY TO THE PLUG-IN, allowing you to keep all your sampler-based plug-ins preloaded while sending program changes to things like B4, Atmosphere, or whatever. A simple feature, yes, but with really big implications for people who are playing live.

We were just about to release it when one of the beta testers reported a bug that required us to hold it back... but with any luck, we should have it available for download in the next two weeks. (appendages crossed).

Thanks for your patience, and sorry we haven't been better and keeping you guys in the loop.

That sounds like a great update, especially the spiking fixes and ivory stuff. Im all for new plug in's being receptorized but I reckon it's more important to improve the hardware and OS. To be honest, if Muse stopped doing any more eceptorized plugs tomorrow it would'nt bother me. I feel I have enough variety and quality way and above what I would expect from a hardware keyboard.

Post

Wow! Where as I'm inclinced to agree that there really are some incredibly great plug-ins supported on Receptor, and Receptor does provide (my biassed opinion!) a lot of value in the way it hosts the plug-ins, I'd be hard pressed to agree that we should stop receptorizing. There are simply too many cool / quirky / unusual plugins out there that I'm interested in! And of course your main stream gotta-have plug-ins keep receiving updates, we'll its hard not to want the latest/greatest, although one could argue that some plugs like the perennial Atmosphere would be hard to improve upon.

As for the comparison with a keyboard, I'm heartened that so many players find it REALLY hard to go back to their built in sounds on their Motifs and Tritons once they've used a Receptor, but I'm still boggled that so few people in the wider keyboard / synth / sound module world realize how much better virtual instruments sound compared to what they are using.

In fact the most fun part of my job is people who play something like Ivory for the first time on Receptor, and can't believe that a sampled piano can sound so amazingly good.

Anyway, forgive me for going way off topic. Thanks for your patience on 1.6. I heard yesterday that engineering knows exactly what the issue is and is coming up with the best approach to fixing it. Please let Rick know if you want to be in the final round of beta!

Cheers

Sorry Bryan, im a selfish so and so :) I don't use my receptor more than a sample player for live use. Give me Kontakt 2, Scarbee, Ivory, minimonsta, and oddity, and im a very happy bunny! That's why I never jump on the bandwagon of asking a lot about updates, because I already feel I have what I need for me. I appreciate some users, if not most will use their Receptor far more complicated than what I do.

I don't think I could cope if I had to go back to Roland,Korg, or anything like that in hardware synthesis. It's quite nice in the UK because not many people know about Receptor and when I show others who are still using hardware they are speechless and I look mighty!! :D

Regards from a simple Receptor user...
