Side Chains... eeek... this will be a major project soon enough... implementing side chains in a consistent manner for VST, AU and, yes, RTAS...

Yeah, I guess. So, just start with audio input level modifiers

If input level was available as a modulator, ducking would easily be possible instantly, too (of course you know that).
