Hello, this is my first post! I bought a receptor pro 400 a month ago to use it live and in studio. One of the projects I'm involved in is a 80's cover band (Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, The Cure, etc.). Since I need decent Yamaha Cp-70 and/or Cp-80 sounds, I bought AraldFx GrandElectrix and installed it using unsupported method. It seems it doesn't work very well: every time I switch receptor on, GrandElectrix swith itself to the default settings (dfd on 64kb - 64 voices). If I try to switch dfd off, it restart receptor at least three times. If I use other plugins it's even worse, it seems unreliable.

What do you other guys use for CP-70/80? Maybe Nostalgia? Colossus? How about Prominy library?

I'd appreciate your help! Thanks

The CP sounds in EVE aren't bad at all. EVE is free with Receptor but I'm not sure if those samples were on the pre-installed presets or the "Famous Keys" supplemental libraries I bought.

Hi moseslawn,

I tried out Eve, but it seems there are problems running it with other plugs. Some receptor users reported this as well

Welcome Orpheus!

I think that Colossus has THE BEST CP-80 sound I have heard. I use it in Kontakt2, adding that VST's chorus/delay and I can pretty much get "that sound" exactly.

The GrandElectrix isn't bad, but doesn't really compare in terms of playability (and it's just not bright enough to begin with).

The Hollow Sun sampes (on which GE is supposedly based) got rave reviews, but I have not heard them: http://www.hollowsun.com/cds/cp70_page.html. Not sure what it is compatible with though.

Nostalgia isn't bad, about like Grand Electrix since it's also Hollow Sun samples..doesn't compare to Colossus though. There are some other nice vintage things on Nostalgia as well, and the samples are small so you can do a lot of layering without taxing a Pro400. Again Kontakt2 is highly recommended for this as well.

I have one K2 multi that is the colossus CP-80 and some vintage string machine sound from Nostalgia....and it just *kills* :D

Hey Hybernation...

You helped me get Nostalgia working, before it was 'user-installable', and I don't remember thanking you. So... Thank You!

I agree on the quality of the Nostalgia/HS samples, it runs well here and it's much more affordable than Colossus. Wish it had more velocity layers but that doesn't matter so much if you consider how compressed those 80's e.pianos were in the mix anyway.

Thank you, Hybernation.

I will certainly consider colossus and even nostalgia. Prominy library looks very interesting with 16 layers of samples in kontakt... With OS 1.6 it should work fine!
I'm also looking for fairlight "aahh" and "oohh" classic vocal sounds, I need them for TFF songs. I have a decent "aahh" from an old e-mu library but I'm sure there's something better in newer libraries. 80's sound is very demanding for keyboardists...!!!

Thanks again, very nice people here at receptor forum!

Nostalgia has you covered on those 8-12bit samples...has excellent oohs/ahhs from Fairlight and other signature sounds from that and Emulator as well.

I had forgotten about Promony. Jeez! 15GB for JUST the CP-80?!? That one has GOT to sound sweet, and I'm sure has WAY more velocity layers than Colossus. I may have to spring for it eventually ;-)

Someone tell me though...how can you get 15GB on ONE DVD? Maybe that is a misprint? 1.5GB perhaps?

Not sure about CP-80, but I have LPC and it is delivered on multiple DVDs. Also, the files are '.rar', so there may be some compression happening.

Please write me to aldo@araldfx.com ; I can send you a version of Grand Electrix without the DFD.
