afaik [so prolly TOTALLY wrong] -

the fact that a plugin is an instrument or an effect is not important

what matters is whether it adheres to the vst spec or vst2 spec [vst2 allows automation - the original doesnt]

the confusion occurs because [again afaik] instruments were not possible until vst2

Tracktion will automate any plug that declares itself automatable, be it an effect or instrument type.

In generaly, I think teh asnwer to your question is 'yes'.

Ah, I just realized what my issue was (finally got some coffee this morning).

I'm thinking more in regards to parameter recording in "pattern mode", rather than "song mode" (not sure what other hosts call this).

And, after thinking about it, I realized there's probably no way to associate FX automation to patterns, since FX are inherently "patternless".

Unless you had a generic midi control instrument (patterned, with plenty of knobs - kind of a virtually "Knobby"), linked all of it's controls to the effect, and then did the pattern editing on it...

Then, you could drop the desired patterns from it to the proper place in "song mode", and have the effect synced to match.

I think...

Maybe I need more coffee.

Hmmm...
After a bit more coffee, I'm thinking even that solution is probably not so simple.
First of all, the virtual "knobby" would have to send midi out (assuming it's supported by the host), then that output would have to be re-routed back into the host and assigned to the effect.
Regarless, sounds like a Midi-OX clusterfunk.
Maybe there's any easier way I'm overlooking?

I know it's on the todo list but i would like to know when it'll be implemented ==> i'm starting a new collaborating project and i would like to switch to Tracktion+Reason+Live instead of Fruity Loops.

My only problem : I need the midi clock to sync my pc with my friend's one.

Someone could give me an info ?

To Jules ==> Conratulations your soft is really....GOOD :hail:

Thanks. I can't give a date for midi sync, but it's unlikely I'll get time to do it within the next couple of months at least. It's quite a high priority, but there's a bunch of stuff I need to do first.

Post

Thx for your fast answer Jules :)

I will wait for the next version...sooooooooon ;)

Post

Not sure if this has been asked already, but can you apply a filter to a single MIDI clip?

Thanks, and after using the program for a few hours, I already like it much better than SONAR 2.2 XL, Reason 2.5, Fruity Studio 4 and Project5 (all of which I own). :)

Post

no, not at the moment. It's on the to-do-list, of course!

Thanks, jules... the only other immediate thing that struck me was that the typical wheel mouse scrolling function (wheel-click + drag) is not implemented. I'm not sure if this would help other people, but my initial reaction is that it might make editing MIDI in the piano roll a bit easier. For example, you scroll the wheel up to zoom in, then quickly click and drag the wheel sideways to reposition yourself within the zoomed area.

In conjunction with this thought, adding a version of the "Zoom to show selected clips" function as a separate MIDI Editor button may be helpful; having that button auto-zoom the clip both vertically and horizontally would be nice as well.

But enough suggestion-offering from me... I think I will go write some music now! :)

Post

yes, I've not thought about any mouse-wheel click stuff, probably because I never use it myself in other apps..

thanks for the ideas, though, I'll look into it when I'm reworking the midi editor.
