Just loaded 1.6....seems much improved in this area. I am not having immediately flawless performance, but I haven't tweaked much yet.
Who has a large sampled piano running well on Kontakt II using DFD, and what are your settings and machine configuration?

Can you tell me where I get DFD downloads and will the latest version work on all the plugins?PhilAiken wrote:Just loaded 1.6....seems much improved in this area. I am not having immediately flawless performance, but I haven't tweaked much yet.

DFD (direct from disc) is a feature of Kontakt II....there is nothing to download....Early reports regarding Receptor operating system 1.6 indicate that this feature works better now.
Hope this clears things up...

Ok, DFD seekers, here is what I have.
First let me say that my unit came back from Muse with Beta OS 1.6 and K4 PREINSTALLED, and I have not TOUCHED the DFD settings on this one. In the past, I tweaked them to death (to little effect).
Secondly, let me say that I have had the REV-C update, so my CPU is the faster one. AND I upgraded to the 400GB HD with the K4 update. I think these two things have played a factor in my DFD success.
Lastly, I have practically ALL of the SampleTekk piano libs on there, Black Grands, White Grands, The Big One, and the largest one they make "Seven Seas" (11 GB!!!). The all play flawlessly at buffer size of 128, and I tend to keep the polyphony on the K2 presets at 256. You can do big huge Emerson runs up and down an 88 with the sustain pedal held. For normal playing, they work fine at 64, though for me 128 is FINE in terms of latency and you get PLENTY of leftover CPU for other things. Just now I was playing Seven Seas at 128 and I layered in some strings from Atmosphere. No problem. Then I added the CP-80 and a Pad from Colossus (another instance, not in K2, though I could have). No issues. Still not pegging the CPU by any means, or getting any glitching.
Last year when I had my Rev-B 160GB with OS 1.5, playing these SampleTekk pianos was pretty impossible and frustrating. Today it is close to flawless.
As always, your milage may vary

I haven't changed anything or even gone into the "expert mode" screen until tonight, but here is what it shows if you go to expert mode:

I just went into "about" to show you the version and I notice also the THIS version of K2 used the DFD 1.5 version (the one Akoustik Piano has always used). This may also account for some of the improvement.

Someone was asking also about Scarbee KGB (in another thread). I have the 16 bit version on Receptor and it works very well. I could have probably loaded the 24-bit version, but I figured "why push it?". My ears certainly cannot tell the difference!
And I must say that once you hear the Scarbee "Classic Electric Piano" you will probably never load NI's EP again!
Hope this helps!
peace,
John
