 I hope the rehersal and gig went well! I have a feeling you're going to enjoy Michael's presets; he's done some really good stuff with subtle variation. I love using them with an arp or a step sequencer. :)

Just a quick note to say I thoroughly enjoyed Mike's "Oldskool" set. Douze points!

Post

Completely off topic... What are Douze points?

Post

French, means Twelve points (a phrase notably used in the Eurovision Song Contest).

It's a european thing, you yanks wouldn't understand... :D ;)

OK, so a reasonable colloquial translation would seem to be: Howard has NOT voted Michael off the island.... :D

Wouldn't dream of doing that.

Sometimes when making sound you stumple upon something quite unique, today was one of those day. I twisted knobs like i use too and suddenly something started to emerge and i couldnt belive my own eyes and ears.

Now if i told you that this piece of music was made using several Zebras then it wouldnt be that big a deal but imagine 1 Osc + 1 Shaper + 1 VCF + 1 Comb making it out as a rich ensemble, a one patch ARP ensemble.

Its an ARP patch with a little flavour of harp-violin-flute-pizzicato ensemble all together in 1 patch.
Modulation wheel opens for the flute, aftertouch opens for the pizzicato ensemble.

Try listen:

I'm completely baffled by this... (Yeah i know i'm a show off, but really)

You're a proud father, Mike!

I know that feeling - it's great when you hear certain patches take on a life of their own and, after you have nurtured them into adulthood, can surprise you with their independant character. OK, I've probably taken this analogy too far already

BTW: I listened to that MP3 about 10 times in a row - I especially like when the extra percussive "plucked strings" come in (about 32 seconds into the clip). Beautiful.

Before i let this patch go know that its only in BETA stage. I'm waiting for a new 61 key Novation controller and cant do the proper key scalling until i have it in my hands.

As it is now its best played between C1 and C4. You could add a Bassoon to follow the flute on the modwheel, you could change the violin into a harmonica like thing or you could split the patch apart and perhaps have a building ground for a nice flute, pizzicato or something :) Hmmm infact you could add a buttload of things, theres plenty of modules left to be used.

This patch will prolly reside in the Michael Kastrup -> Special directory when an updated Oldskool soundset hit the streets.

I do appreciate the positive feedback :)

Here we go:

Wow, that is one powerful patch! As for updated Oldskool, does this mean we can expect a Vol2 at some point?

And thanks for sharing the patch, I really feel sorry for all the Xsynth users who have lost you to the Zebra. :D

Yap, i think its fairly safe to say a Vol 2 will arrive at some point in the furture, but i have no ETA at all.

Well the XSynth users havnt lost me its just that Reason is in a phase getting ready for new version and i'm fooling around in the meantime :) But admitely, Zebra DO try to suck me into VST again and is doing a pretty damn good job. ;)
