What are peoples thoughts on this? I was looking at the EastWest collections - would you recommend the platinum collection for the price? This will be primarily for live use and we need high quality patches and enough scope to make up custom, rich-sounding patches that include strings, woods and some brass. We used Kontakt 2 last tour with some good quality converted Akai programs but i dont want to use Kontakt again in a live context as i found it too unreliable. Stability is just as important as quality here. Anyone's thoughts?

Cheers,
James

Kontakt 2.2.1 under the new 1.6 OS is MUCH more stable, and the DFD works much better. Still not perfect, but way better.

I'm no expert on String sounds, but there are several libs in Kontakt2 format out there, many cheaper than the high-end EW stuff (which is undoubtedly great, but perhaps overkill for playing live, imho).

Thanks Hybernation,

Im just installing the 1.6 update as we speak. I'll give it a thorough testing with the Kontakt update. I would be happy to use Kontakt as i love the program and the available sounds out there for it but stability is really important. Its being used for a reasonably large-sized international tour and there's only 3 musicians onstage (vocals, piano and keys) so a full, rich sound is required i think in this case as the instrumentation is sparse (BTW, im not one of the musos). Moreover, i had many nervous moments on the last tour with the receptor, due primarily to Kontakt. It would often crash during soundcheck but thankfully i escaped during the shows to be hired again! I dont wanna go thru that again... :-o

James
