That was beautiful. I really love that you actually play the patches you create and share with all of us. I'm still really new to this (just over a year now) and you definitely motivate me to learn more.
Thanks!

Very nice. Is Zebra doing the arppegios or are you playing them?mkastrup wrote:Here the bell snippet:

I love percussive bell/mallet sounds like xylophone, marimba, and vibraphone.

Yep Chris, its the ARP in Zebra, thou if i find a good pattern ill prolly write it down and modify the patch to be played by hand to get full control. I'm also a sucker for those instruments you mentionchardin wrote:Very nice. Is Zebra doing the arppegios or are you playing them?mkastrup wrote:Here the bell snippet:

Today, today was a LONG day with ringing in my ears. After i had made the wavetable with the bell waveforms i decided to use them in combination with the COMB, that alone gave me around 30 ideas and right now im going thru them 1 by 1.
Here is 3 patches i came up with using the wavetable with the COMB module:

First patch is named Kookoo, second is named Glass Block, third Spanish Duet.

Today, well today was one of those days where i sit stuborn for VERY long time with a grrrr patch. The patch is a Rhodes like thing and this is my 3rd attempt of making one. I'm getting better but its still far from where i want it. The click cant get right overall, the high registre sounds fake if i try to make it and etc... jada jada
Really hate these hard to crack emulations BUT i learn something new each time i try to do it. Still thou its a good patch for playing soft but i have to give it another go at some point in the furture.

Assuming you're using FM as a basis, it's worth tweaking the FM keyboard scaling, especially to tame the upper notes. But I guess you've been trying that already...mkastrup wrote:The click cant get right overall, the high registre sounds fake if i try to make it and etc... jada jada

Nopes. not using FM because then it will come out as a DX type of rhodes, i'm using drawn additive waveforms. The way i see it is that a DX type rhodes got the lows and the highs but is missing body in the mids. Funny thou at arms lenght i have my old Yamaha TX802 beside me but i cant get my self to peek in it.Howard wrote:Assuming you're using FM as a basis, it's worth tweaking the FM keyboard scaling, especially to tame the upper notes. But well, perhaps i should take your advise and go the FM way first and then try for body after
Cheers

How about sticking to your additive method for the basic sound (which is really good but doesn't seem to be very dynamic), then use FM just for the "body"mkastrup wrote:But well, perhaps i should take your advise and go the FM way first and then try for body after

Zynaddsubfx has a 24 patch Rhodes bank, excellent variations, I'll bet if you look at the settings in the edit page, you'll get some ideas for the nuance you're seeking! Plus another 23 related sounds in the SynthPiano bank...good luck!mkastrup wrote:Today, well today was one of those days where i sit stuborn for VERY long time with a grrrr patch. What really bothers me is that when you combine different types of synthesis the outcome will often sound like you pasted a sound onto the body of another sound, if you know what i mean. Like adding additional attack or breath or something to an existing sound. In really bad cases it can sound like you press the C key synchron on 2 keyboards to produce 1 sound. Anyway that explains why i rather try get it all done with one synthesis method. Theres a 90% chance that i will have to turn to FM if i want a more dynamic kinda rhodes. Its not a die hard emulation i'm aiming for but a subtle thing more like a Cazio CZ-1 vibra/E-piano thing. Genre i think its more like Dub, IDM and Soulish RnB.Howard wrote:How about sticking to your additive method for the basic sound (which is really good but doesn't seem to be very dynamic), then use FM just for the "body"mkastrup wrote:But well, perhaps i should take your advise and go the FM way first and then try for body afterWith FM, you have lots of control along the keyboard and more dynamics because you can scale the carrier and modulators independantly.
Ohh well, the thing WILL pop, just a question of when
Right now i'm having fun with Noise and the Comb, crazy stuff can be done with that
