Here are two things I would like to see

1) ring modulation included within the mixer module -- whenever you mix two sources, the ring mod product is an additional optional.

2) filter separation within the filter widget (for the filter types that would support this). I know it can be done now with two filters in series, but thats klunky.

i would pass on 2 for sure. of the remaining, i like 1 for portability (also why i don't like 2, and lean away from 3).

i will leave the heavy reasoning to the code master(s), but i really don't see much benefit for 3 over 2, since .h2p is a text file already (but i do understand cutting out the overhead of parsing the rest of the file). but either way i'd happy.
Hehe, the reason I tend for 3 is simple. That way the existence of the file indicates that there is a description. Otherwise all presets have to be opened and parsed to some extend to see if there's a description or not... this can make opening folders with lots of presets painful...

My only concern was, a preset that's saved with song would loose the tie to its description. But then, the location of the original preset is stored with song, so here's the connection again!

My suggestion is, Zebra is gonna be updated to 2.2 with current improvements/bugfixes, MSEG bug being the last big issue. Then, advanced preset management (description, colour tags) goes into MFM2 because there are not so many presets yet and MFM presets do definately need descriptions. There and next Z2 betas can show if and how stuff pans out.

Later,

;) Urs

I would like to re-submit my original request:

I think alot of things would be cool in Zebra, but what I REALLY think it needs is easy & fast right click preset load/save menu for each module, and especially for MSEGs.

Most synths that use MSEGs have pull down menus to save & load your favorite ones and it makes sense to build patches like this.

Having to copy/paste between presets and having inconsistent preset loading for the few modules that support it are large hinderences.

Also, I would like to be able to type numeric values when a control has focus to reduce RSI amongst Zebra users (a noble goal?).

I mean, come on URS, you're a big Mac guy, you want to have a highly usable/consistant interface for your baby, right?

Still, some bugfixes (MSEG bug!) have to be issued as soon as possible, and as coincidence goes, I have today fixed exactly that bug... 99.9%... another couple of little ones remain, mostly due to switch to more modern/faster compilers/libraries.

For example, opening a 2nd instance/editor on Windows, you get a false-colour gui... really bad taste stuff...

I won't stop working on improvements though, and quick drop-down presets are one thing kept in mind... (especially as this concept already exists for normal presets)

Cheers,

;) Urs

Congrats on fixing the MSEG bug! I know how frustrating finding some of the more elusive bugs can be and you've been chasing this one for a while. I hope finding the root cause has made you feel a little better. :)

You bet! Grrrl and I went to our dvd dealer of choice and set us up for the things we missed (or what we are still missing), such as Lost I+II, 4400 I-III, Coupling III and a couple of movies... no reason to worry tho, we'll watch after office hours :hihi:

P.S.: Bummer that we still get things one year late in Germany... and it's dubbed on tv... how stupid is that?!?

Down time with one's S.O. is always a good thing. :D

Another idea for presets struck me.

I find that I often load a preset, then muck around with it a bit to fit what i'm doing and then saving it as Foobar1-32 or similar.

It would be nice to be able to save variations of a preset as part of the preset itself - i.e no module changes but rather just parameter changes (maybe even just XY pad changes, to encourage patch makers to make them usable).

Something like a fixed number of variations of a preset (10 or so) that are saved as part of the patch itself.

This would also be an excellent help when doing sound design, if you can easily copy between variations and compare. A/B comparison on steroids.

Just a thought.

PS. Isn't this basically what the ohm guys to with their synths? Melohman or something like that?

Is there any Z2beta 3 already available to download?

Actually, my naming convention for new versions is pretty transparent:

http://www.u-he.com/Zebra22b3Win.zip

But beware! It *is* a beta... not all of the latest bugs are gone:

Reminder: The bugs I'm fighting now are those that came in due to renovation tasks, such as using newer libraries...

Those introduced last week to make Z2b2 working on Receptor, that's right?
