isn't that one kind of for "hearing differences" though? i can usually recognize a LaTeX thesis / article easily and my workmate seems to be able to spot one a mile away even though it wasn't using the usual suspect fonts or page layouts.

as for daw sound quality differences, i'm not exactly buying the "they're all exactly the same, it's just maths" explanation even it IS just maths in the end but OTOH i couldn't care a flying... uhm... fick about debating about the subject since those debates always turn into a mess. and the biggest differences are usually about people not learning to use their tools properly anyway.

Seriously though, I wrote my Master's thesis in Word and it was a nightmare. I finished my PhD thesis in Latex a couple of weeks back and there were only a few . Now using the beamer package to make pdf presentations using LaTex instead of the MS Powerpoint. Not going back.

Now hosts is another story. Everybody knows that ProLogCubEndoTools sound 20-40% better

TeX, as a true typesetting language, will actually do proper kerning and so forth... unlike MS Word. OpenOffice looks better to me than Word, too, on the printed page... and yet, it looks worse as a screen render (the font rendering engine is kinda choppy).

So, I'm not surprised when people notice differences.

I've noticed that Cubase (at least SX3) comes by default with some sort of a built in limiter on the master output. I think some older versions of ProTools do too. (can anybody confirm this?)

I can't confirm it but my experience with SX3 leads me to believe there's some truth to that.

I can't confirm it but my experience with SX3 leads me to believe there's some truth to that.

I did a test with SX3 where i render files to disk that peaked at +3 dB. They canceled out once i lowered the volume with 3 dB so i doubt there's some limit action going on there.

ah, one more thing he does is testing the timing. how he does it? by inserting an instance of ezdrummer and listening to a beat

his conclusion is that "logic's timing is the best" cause "it grooves more"

well the bad thing about this is that the guy doing the review (he's called "non-eric") is a man that earns (or earned) his living as a music producer. oh well...
