Not just that... there's also the switch to Vista, Dev Studio 2005, better engine for font display, newer/faster routines for this and for that... I havn't changed the "winning team" in two and a half years. the 'scan' huh... now, that you mention it, live does reject quite a few effects; but usually with a message, to the effectUrs wrote:Well I talked to Ableton and they say everything's fine. Maybe it's down to a certain configuration, or to whatever other software is installed... (I wouldn't be surprised if Zebra is scanned last... Z... and some other plugin being scanned before somehow corrupts the scanning process... interesting thought... will ask Abletons again...)

As far as I know, Z2 runs fine in Live.aaastronomer wrote:the 'scan' huh... now, that you mention it, live does reject quite a few effects; but usually with a message, to the effectUrs wrote:Well I talked to Ableton and they say everything's fine. Are you on Windows? Have you tried the latest beta?

Does this one change anything?

Thanks Paolo!
Some known issues are fixed, other have been added. I.e. there can be non-reset delay buffers on playback start or when changing presets. But these issues shall be gone with next beta...

Switching/skip between (receptorized) presets seems to work fine, no scratches or bumpings even with a key pressed and playing notes.Urs wrote: Some known issues are fixed, other have been added. Just some frustrating not to have direct access to Zebra presets browser still and additional oscillators/waveforms selection too here on Receptor.
Anyway, i'll test it further during today.

Urs,
I have a few suggestions for MIDI learn.
1. Currently you can only have one CC number per knob/button. This means if I want to control two things with the same physical controller, I have to resort to the XY matrix. If the XY is already used, I have to throw something out to do this. I'd like the ability to say make cutoff for VCF1 and VCF2 controllable by a single rotary encoder w/o XY. Another practical example of this would be the note length in the arp. If I want to make all 16 notes gradually lengthen from 1 to 4, I need to automate all 16 steps separately. In this case I can't even use XY since it has a max of 8 slots per axis.
2. This goes along with #1. If you midilearn say VCF1:Cutoff and then midilearn VCF2:Cutoff with the same controller the first assignment is silently removed. This surprised me at first. I think it makes a lot more sense to have >1 assignments per CC and one has to manually unlearn each place s/he has learned.
3. Loadable midimaps. Currently there is one global setup for midi. If I load two instances of Z2 they share the same setup of CCs. If I want to automate one set of things in the first instance and a different set in the second instance, I have to do gymnastics with the midimap.txt file and changing presets per instance (so that it stays memory resident). Quite a hack for something so basic.
I know you've talked about re-working the midi interface in upcoming releases, I'd find both things a lot more helpful when working with midi and Z2.

Oh, just a question about Midi controls, for Urs and Z2 owners...
How does Z2 interact with Novation Zero Remote SL and its latest Automap (better if tested in Logic) ?
Thanks.

Hey... regarding Midi... d'oh... yeah... we'll see...
I consider the upcoming 2.2 more like a maintenance update. The most urgent bugs & improvements are addressed. The whole issue of managable MidiMaps must wait for a more relaxed update, maybe 2.3 then...
Regarding auto mapping... I guess these automappers iterate through the parameter list and somehow add their stuff? Hmmm... I don't know how they work...

Sounds good, in case you haven't noticed I really like using automation either realtime or in my DAW.Urs wrote:Hey... regarding Midi... d'oh... yeah... we'll see...

Hmm suggestions for an already excellent synth...
Yes, + 1 for the multiple destinations for midi controllers.
A pop up list to see what is assigned to what would be useful for complex patches. If it also had negative and positive scaling then we'd really be rocking
(I'm thinking of the "racks" in Live 6 as well as the Live 6 host midi implementation)
Not an easy job I imagine, but would expand the capabilties immensely.
Love to see a (modulateable) seperation control on one or two the filters too a la Imposcar.
Also I was surprised not to find a sample reduction module in the shaper section as it would expand the sonic capabilities nicely - much more s than the bit-crusher. If you are looking for a good implementation, the second mode of redux (of 3) in Albino 3 is the best sounding one with the largest useable sonic range - to my ears, also I'm not sure the one in Logic has been surpassed...
A super hi-gain distortion mode (as in seriously dirty) would be a nice addition from my pov too.
For ease of use, a unipolar switch would be useful for the lfos, though this can be got around by using the user configurable LFO.
Shame that the eq module is not available in the synth section along with the ability to modulate the frequencies of at least the two mid bands (q and boost would be the icing on the cake.
Lastly, I can get really interesting sounds by modulating a point around in the More Osc section with the mouse when running a sequence. Can "points" be a mod destination?
That's about it for now...
Thanks for a really excellent, top quality instrument/sound creation device.

Hey bagginz,
Thanks!
I'm gonna make up my mind about Midi CCs... I still think though that multiple destinations at different scales are best handled in the XY section...
LFO polarity is an issue, along with time-based LFO rates rather than beat based.
Here comes a downer: Separation for the existing filters is not doable, or it would not provide for the anticipated results. This is because there are no identical algorithms used in serial filter stages. I.e. A resonant SVF lowpass might be followed by a non-resonant SVF lowpass. The whole formant-ish thing of filter separation will only work if two or more serial stages are resonant... which unfortunately (and as far as I remember) in Z2 never is the case...
Eq module in synth section would be cool, but I have already done that in FilterscapeVA with a highly optimized mono Eq... I don't wanna put a stereo version of this in Zebra right now... maybe when everybody (95% of users) has reached 3.0 GHz Quad Core Xeon speed
However... the normal filters feature Peaking/Shelving modes...
I'm thinking of an OSC mode where the points don't change their order when you drag them. That'd just do what you want
Agreed, more shaper modes would be cool
However, most of this has to wait until the general improvements come up...
Need more coffee...
Urs
