Yes, the Virus is a soft synth. It's not real. :hyper: :?: :dog: 8)

It's a phrase referring to levels of quality, not emulation.

Well, from time to time I'm not interested in hearing about your hamster being pregnant or how tasty your vintage corn flakes collection is but I simply like to stay ON topic. If you didn't get the message, sorry sir!

Hm,

until now no one here said that this sounds like a Virus, right? So what are you missing here with the other comments?
And to say it more straight: I agree with you, too. I like the audio that Michael presented but I don't think that it has the Virus characteristics I'm looking/hearing for. As we're talking "Zebra play Virus" for me it's simply 1:0 for the Virus.
All I said is that I like the meantioned audio file for it's good (Zebra) sounds.

Zebra CAN sound cold and digital but doesn't have to. It can sound very warm, too. I like your jazzy example, the music and the sounds.

I'm still not sure wheter you were seious or not when you said the Virus is a softsynh and not real. However it is software whereas the Matrix 12 is analog. Or at least the signal path (osc, vcf, vca). The modulators are software generated on the Matrix 12 as well.
What i think John (or do you prefer mr Vulich?) meant was the Virus isn't the only game in town. There's plenty of other synths that sounds really good. The Matrix 12 being one of them. One of the best synths i've tried period.

shogger, can you please define 'famous Virus sounds' ?

Since I have Zebra2 and my Virus TI (finaly) arrived, I could do a comparison between the 2. If someone could provide some midi-file, this would be most helpful !

I must say that I'm a bit disapointed by the sound of the TI, I had much better memories of my Virus B (maybe because there weren't as many good VSTi's around back then). For my latest songs I prefer the sounds of Zeba2 and Nexus much more than those of the TI.

Peter.

BTW : Check out my Zebra2 soundbank, there are some from-the-top-of-my-head Virus sounds in there (I didn't have a Virus when I made them, so it's not 1:1), just trying to capture the sonic character of the beast.
My band : The Black Tartan Clan (celtic punkrock)

I think you can make every synth sound cold if you want. Most of the Sounds I heard from the virus sounds also not very warm to me. But I think virus can also make some warm sounds if you want.

I don't why some people believe that the virus is the reference for all synths. Virus is a good synth for dance/ techno but never a reference ! I own many Synths like Juno 60, Roland JD 800 , Oberheim Matrix 6 , Roland Jupiter 4 but I never wanted a Virus because I don't liked this agressive modern sound.

Cool!

Just out of interest, does the TI sound like this right out of the box, without any external compression?

I wouldn't call the Virus particularly aggressive - e.g. Nord Leads are more aggressive than Virus IMO. However, I agree that the presets you find in most modern synths (especially plugins) are particularly grating. This doesn't seem bother kids brought up on "loudness maximizer and MP3 quality" - but I suppose they just don't know any better...

Actions, huh? I've almost completed about 300 factory presets especially for the next Z2 update. Including some Virus clones.

This is my work right now - no time to play. You'll have to wait like everyone else. Sorry.
