Shogger could you please re-link the virus example? Having a little trouble figuring out what you're comparing things to. And what's firebird?

Shogger,
you started this heh heh but 29 pages of arps is getting pretty hard to navigate. Would you consider taking all the arps to the initial thread and edit it in a neat way and perhaps set it up like this:
Link to the original arp by Manuel
Link to the MIDI file
and then:
Synth name Creator link
/Michael

Yeah, I know, I've drawn the modwheel data in Cubase and I left it full open for too long. I will try to re-do them this week.Howard wrote:Hwy Peter - could you re-record those last two and let the Cutoff close more (now and again)? They're too full-on to tell...pschelfh wrote:Trance Arp 1

I *never ever* thought about contributing to any such a thread. I mean, I'm a synth-idiot, nothing else. Anyways, I slapped the MIDI file onto something and rendered it down. Three versions of it.
All too bright, the latter two also being rather harsh/bright (even the first one, so, all of them are too harsh - yes, I'm a great synth programmer), then, the files certainly aren't "hyper-sawing" enough (maybe due to the lack of OSCs?), the attack (which, in the original, seems to be modulated to my ears - could've done so, but been too lazy) is way too strong as well - but anyways, here goes:
http://home.arcor.de/s.franck/temp/LameOldArp.mp3
And no, I'm not trying to get any Virus sound simulated - I don't even have a clue about what a Virus sounds like. The only thing I tried was to get a sound that'd probably work "in context". And hey, maybe none of them does. As said, I'm no synth-dude (nor a tarnce musician), just a guitar player playing some blues licks.

Sounds good, but you gotta lose the lower octave, the original sound did not use an oscillator tuned one octave lower.pschelfh wrote:Yeah, I know, I've drawn the modwheel data in Cubase and I left it full open for too long. This will help a lot with comparison

Sorry, I've missed a day or two... has anyone already rendered the Virus dry with the original Vengence patch?

If you tell me what the name of the patch is, and if a Virus B is enough I'll render it. Just don't want to go through 29 pages to figure out what the "original sound" is

I'm going to try to find that patch. It should be somewhere in the TranceSourceX bank from Manuel Schleis.Urs wrote:Sorry, I've missed a day or two... has anyone already rendered the Virus dry with the original Vengence patch?
If someone knows the name, that would be helpful !

It's the third sound in the "Incubation 2" demo song... so maybe it's not in TranceSourceX...pschelfh wrote:I'm going to try to find that patch. There are tons of wicked sounds on Incubation v2. Some of the basses are particularly interesting. I couldn't even get CLOSE to replicating the basses, like, even if I slapped on all the processing in the world, not even remotely close.
The sound demo is here...
http://www.vengeance-storage.com/www.ve ... chleis.mp3
Check out the following times...
0:38 - the main arp everyone is talking about
2:15 - one of the hardest leads I've ever heard, again no chance I could even replicate half the sound on this one
2:34 / 3:10 / 3:21 - the wicked bass sounds These are substantially harder to produce than the arp above, try it! Use as many effects as you want!
Cheers

Can you try like I suggested? It sound closer to the original that way with modulating the resonance filter with a sine LFO. Least that's what it sounds like to me.pschelfh wrote:Yeah, I know, I've drawn the modwheel data in Cubase and I left it full open for too long. Keep in mind that those demos may contain production work, and may not be naked patch demos. I own a few of those soundsets, and was doing a few tests to recreate the sound of the demos Manuel showcases on his site. The particular one I tried was the V-Station and the Club4K soundset he programmed for it. There was compression, reverb and effect automation all over the place as well as a multiband limiter & exciter.
So I do believe it's pretty pointless trying to re-create a patch, while comparing it to a processed demo tune.
2 cents

Yep, I think the original was like that, because there was no modwheel data in the midi file.DevonB wrote:Can you try like I suggested? Now that I know where to look for the original patch, I should be able to match it more closely.
