That's those 'sweet spots' Urs was talking about. I remember from the time I did sounds for the Virus B that only a tiny turn on the filter cutoff knob in combination with the resonance resulted in another 'sweet spot', giving a completely different sound character.

Damn, that's hard to explain !

I gave it an other shot, this time with Twin. This one is getting closer.. I'm just not awake enough to keep messing with that filter sweet spot.. I'm going to refine that tomorrow.

ps. what's with people saying tarnce all the time? Is that supposed to be some sort of passive aggressive insult towards trance?
Curious what you used for those?
First one is z3ta+, second is ZynAddSubFX, third is the first two mixed together. I just used supersaw presets I had made for both synths and some free external effects.

That's pretty good actually. One thing that might help to more closely mimic the original clip and perhaps give the illusion of being slightly more punchy would be to reduce the release a touch. The Virus example is a little bit more staccato, whereas yours is more legato (smoother transitions between notes). :tu:

I like that a lot. Sounds kinda 'clean' in comparison to the Virus expample, but no points will be deducted for that.

Nice one.

Nice work - this is the best one I've heard so far. Aside from Tronam's suggestion, it's missing the noise source (which is why it lacks the virus patch's chiffing). Also, you'll need to set keyfollow so that the filter opens up more for the upper notes than the lower ones (this will also compensate for the fact that the upper notes are slightly longer than the lower notes in the original piece).

Yeah I know what you mean.
I wonder how many potential sales have been lost as a result
of the confusion?
At a glance Twin looks more like a filter than a fully fledged synth.

good point.. I think I went for my own preferences instead of copying the original arp :) I'm going to 'dirty' it up a bit this evening and make it a bit more punchy.

not bad for two oscillators though :)

ah, yes, of course.. I knew I was forgetting something. I knew this Twin would come in handy one day :D

[edit]

I listened to the original again (something I maybe should have done yesterday) and it seems I have confused the 'air' in the middle and last section with a lot more open filter in my patch which takes the punch out and makes you lose the filter sweep sweet spot which happens at lower frequencies. I'm confident I can make my patch a lot better. Thanks for the tips! 8)

This is absulutely my last try, really ! :D

The original Virus preset tweaked in real-time, reverbed and levelled : I'm beginning to hate this arp!

Still not the same, so I guess Manuel Schleiss is doing some additional tweaking and/or processing. Great sound designer AND tweaker !

There always seems to be something about the attack that doesn't match, and personally, I can't see raising the attack to adress the problem at all.

Actually, I don't know, I seem to prefer your version over the original (if I ever needed such a sound at all), but there's still a clearly noticeable difference.
