The original Virus preset tweaked in real-time, reverbed and levelled : I'm beginning to hate this arp!

Still not the same, so I guess Manuel Schleiss is doing some additional tweaking and/or processing. Great sound designer AND tweaker !

Peter.
Well this is exactly what I wanted, a clip of the original preset that is NOT from the vengeance sounds web site. Nice, I think we should now use YOUR clip as the reference and try to reproduce it with other synths. It is NOT going to be any easier.

One little requrest: Could you remove the reverb, phaser and master limiter and post it once more? That would help a lot while trying to dissect the original preset.

Cheers!

:-o Aaaaargh, you don't give up do you ?

Sorry, already deleted everything that even remotely resembled that arp from my HD yesterday.

I have a better idea : why don't we to disect a Virus bass for the next 40 pages ? :hihi:

I'm 'sick' of the virus sound :) , it has plagued too many threads and cd's (joking ofcourse).
T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

I kind of wish I hadn't of sold my Virus now. I would have been all over recording tons of raw sounds for the sake of scientific dissection. :)

What about making a thread where we post a/different midi file(s) and everyone can show of his best.

just for fun.
no preset copying and so on....

:)

sort of arranging contest just for fun and to learn something about different sounds/equipment/tools.
I think this could be way more interesting than setting a phaser exactly to a predefined "reference sound".

I love that :lol

So, can I go back to code now? Maybe for a couple of days?

Hey hey.. I haven't even started trying yet!! Gimme a chance! :hihi:

Ok, well what reverb did you use? Internal virus reverb? Also what limiter? It's good practice this little challenge so lemme give it a go.

Cheers!

I meant that the demo of the patches have been recorded using a f**k of a lot of extra FXs on top of the synth.. most likely compression, distortion, etc..
So you think Manuel is being misleading then when he says he only used what he did?

BTW - I thought your last clip was rather nice as well
I'd rather trust a false dog than Manuel ... Seriously, if you see what he does at his vengeance forum ...

That's not a bad idea actually. What interests me mainly about the virus is the shape of the envelopes. These CAN be recreated within Sytrus as it has very high quality spline envelopes. It is an extremely powerful synth btw.. so maybe I should explore it just in general and see what is possible.

Check out the open source Helix for an idea on supersaw. It seems to implemented very efficiently there. Up to 9 per waveform. Also, the unstable parameter in Helix is just awesome and I haven't heard it on any other synth.

Sorry to be OT again, I need more Virus help, maybe. I was wondering if it can be rendered rather than just recorded. There's an error message that comes up saying that you need to realtime render when attempting to render. Could anyone tell me what this is? It doesn't just mean record it, like?
Wishing you satisfying music, nix

What host do you use ?

In Cubase SX, if you choose 'Export Audiofile' there's an option at the bottom to switch on 'Realtime Rendering'. You have to do this because the Virus is not a normal Vsti, but an external audio device.
So it can't render as fast as other Vsti's, you'll have to play through the entire song to render it.
