Sorry, already deleted everything that even remotely resembled that arp from my HD yesterday.

I have a better idea : why don't we to disect a Virus bass for the next 40 pages ? :hihi:

Peter.
Hey hey.. I haven't even started trying yet!! Gimme a chance! :hihi:

Ok, well what reverb did you use? Internal virus reverb? Also what limiter? It's good practice this little challenge so lemme give it a go.

Cheers!

Just standard FX from within SX3.

Maybe it could have sounded nicer if I put something like Wizooverb or Sonalksis compressor on it, but I think the Steiny stuff works nice for atificial things like synths (... and I was too lazy to try out different FX's  ).

Come to think of it, I think something like ArtsAcoustic should sound nice. That's also used in Nexus and sounds very good !

do you think you can provide the score for this? We're trying a replica using Sytrus

I hope they port Sytrus to osx one day.. boy oh boy what an amazing sounding synth that is.

Thanks much Pschelfh,
I have Acid Pro, Orion Platinum and FL. I think Orion and FL don't have this rendering option, will check Acid. Are there any freeware hosts that have this capability, like? If not, do you know of any others than Cubase SX?
Thanks again, nix

btw.. I just ran the arp with sytrus :D
why on earth would anyone want a virus when you have sytrus :D

Will check out "unstable"...

Had a quick look on the code... it seems to use wave cycles that fit a number of samples. My attempts in that direction were pretty frustrating. Even at 16 x oversampling I couldn't get the frequency resolution I wanted.

Btw. my current implementation goes up to 11 and offers a subosc each and... naturally... Quad mode. That would be 88 oscillators per voice within a single module. I'm evaluating the best ratio of performance vs. quality currently. Current expense is 2-3 normal Z2 Quad oscs and there's a bit more aliasing than on the Virus.

Not anything near prime time...

Had to put it back into the drawer yesterday because there are some more urgent things to do.

Later,

;) Urs

Now that sounds sweet. Oversampling 64x? :hihi:
“Somebody said to me, ‘But the Beatles were antimaterialistic.’ That’s a huge myth. John and I literally used to sit down and say, ‘Now, let’s write a swimming pool.’ ”

Oversampling 64x?
no, there's no FM so no need to. It's a saw, standard RBJ lowpass, huge delay & reverb, and chorus for fatness.
Added a you-wa-shock for sound magic after Sytrus, though.

Really, people claim 'better filters' & all in their synths, but IMHO the major points are: free-running oscillators (helps not sounding digital), unison or chorus, and envelope curves (that's what makes all the diff in filters)

Isn't that just like modulating the pitch (detune) with something random, like a noise wave LFO ?

Here's a video of the new virus being used.

Oooph... where are they? On the Vengeance website?
Hold up, I'll grab a link, I put together times of my fav sounds from the Vengeance soundsets. This stuff is all from Incubation v2 which is the one the arp is also on.

Edit: see below
The sound demo is here...
http://www.vengeance-storage.com/www.ve ... chleis.mp3

Check out the following times...

0:38 - the main arp everyone is talking about
2:15 - one of the hardest leads I've ever heard, again no chance I could even replicate half the sound on this one
2:34 / 3:10 / 3:21 - the wicked bass sounds These are substantially harder to produce than the arp above, try it! Use as many effects as you want! Very Happy
Cheers

I tried some of these basses last night and again, there was much difference between the mp3 performance and the 'naked' presets on the Virus !

I really must learn how to tweak presets when performing, it gives a whole new dimension to the sound.

From now on I shall be known as 'The Great Tweaker' ! :D My girlfriend already knows me like that but .. erm .. that's a different story.

Peter, if you would be so kind as to post some mp3 samples of these samples 100% clean from the Virus, I really REALLY would appreciate it. Also, perhaps some ideas as to how they got this sound ? i.e. number of oscs used, tuning, waveforms, filter settings, unison .etc

Thank you very much

I'll see what I can do. Can you or someone else provide a cool bassriff midifile ?

I did try to recreate one of the bass presets (Eurobass2) on Zebra2. It was just a simple square wave but the saturation stage before the filter + the saturation/distortion fx on the Virus gave it such a distinct sound that I was unable to recreate it. :?
