Given the amount of "you get what you pay for" bullshit around here I was thinking about knocking up a ribbon mic (piece of piss) and punting it out for about ten grand a pop.

hmmm... i was thinking something that utilized an ultra-thin dual diaphram with huge caps, incredibly well-damped body, tranformerless circuitry, perfect rf shielding, internal shockmounting, continuously variable polar pattern dials, -10 db pad, with all the electronics to tolerances of .5%...

the korby kat4
the brauner KHE...
these are all sub-10k$ mics
does anyone know of anything so esoteric it costs more than 10K?

Some of the old classics tend to fetch somewhat ridiculous prices, this U47 for example has a starting bid of $9999...
Doesn't beat that Brauner but then that one's a stereo mic.

I can't help imagining that the person who buys this, ends up using it for rap or growl. (Big fan of Viking Metal here, don't get me wrong :-)
