A small issue but... when i start the sequencer (ableton), the first note/beat from zebra wont play unless i shift it forward slightly

Is this common to anyone and is there a fixy?
be excellent to one another

No, it works for me,
check the note quantize, often the note starts a little before the clip.
Are you using session or arrangement ?

Post

Well don't know if it's common issue, but this happens also for me with Ableton 6.0.7 on PC. This was introduced with Zebra 2.1 update, with the previous versions it wasn't present. After the update, I was wondering about my tracks which included Zebra 2, as they sounded different. The first note on any clip was "missed", so I had to shift them just a tiny bit forwards.

Post

This may be TOTALLLY off topic......but in case I'm not, I want to share.

When I use to use live, there were more than one program that missed the first beat! I don't have zebra but addictive drums and BFD were two that did! BFD in particular gave me GRIEF/squared with live.......it was always missing beats/etc especially when drag/dropped from bfd browser! (btw, this is pc and mac in MANY different live versions.)

So, the reason I'm bringing this up is that I'm wondering if indeed there is a live issue!

Post

My understanding is that this is a pretty well-known bug in Live.

and that actually makes sense.........

Hm. For me Zebra is the only synth that actually misses the first note (when the clip plays for the first time, when the clip loops the first note is played ok). This happens in arrangement mode, not sure about session. Sadness

It's probably due to Zebra's latency of 16 samples. Some hosts have problems to cope with this in instruments which is a bummer.

This latency however makes Zebra's optimization possible. Otherwise it would cost much much more cpu. And some algorithms are not even possible without any latency.

Please report this issue to your host manufacturers. I've tried, but they have become as tired of listening to me as I have become tired of telling them.

Absynth 4 does this too.

Most of the NI products introduced in the last year do with some systems.

We can also add XT2 to the list;

This is the kind of thing that makes me pine for my MPC and Virus.

Well, the funny thing is that my stuff has always been that way, working fine for years. It's the buggy hosts that introduced this annoyance :x

Well maybe it's not entirely Live issue, like I mentioned before.. this first note missing was introduced on my system after Zebra 2.1 update. I have also the 2.0 "release version" installed (which says Zebra2 0.92 on the plugin window), it doesn't miss the first note. Just tested this with same midi sequence. :)

Interesting...

I hate to break it to you...... But the major companies are putting out crap yeah...

as soon as I saw your " your first note is lost " in the sidebar, I jumped into this forum to read the thread.....

because a lot of my first notes get lost in Tracktion... one of the reasons I dont buy live is because I hear so much, how buggy it is...

Tracktion, str8 up,,, Tracktion 3... SHOULD NEVER have been released in the condition mackie realesed it... and a lot of the hosts, lately. are very very buggy.

I dont know why... I can guess, that because they are making so much money they dont care...

Nowadays I will demo something as long as I can before I buy it... I have been messing around with Bidule for quite some time, and I am in no rush to buy it, and its only 75 dollars...

I am so sorry I bought Tracktion 3, but T2 was so good.

its the hosts... its sad to say, but it really is....

That is why everybody is just wow with Reaper... cause that program is probably solid... although I have not demoed it...

but yeah, I am imagine, its got a strong core

I just thought I would add. I did read that you tested this with two different versions of the same vsti.... but Tracktion bugs come and go, as well...
I used to think the internet was going to unite mankind. Now I realize the internet is perhaps mankinds greatest wasteland of bickering, greed, and narrow minds. " And we all shine on, " Imagine that.
