:x no no no... this is truely terrible...

I just got the new beta 0.1 full exe and then loaded the rar's for the various instruments... tried the Picklute and almost immediately hit this monsterous loud noise ... a combination of static and white noise and extremely loud.... I was really afraid it would damage the monitors before I could reach and turn off the volume on the mixing board that controls the in\out for the delta 1010... THIS IS REALLY BAD...

I am just glad I had all the volumes on the card and mixing board and speakers set to fairly low levels.... I feel certain that if they had been cranked up it would have wiped out the monitors...

I also notice that in the rar for Mbria when you unrar, there is still another rar file inside... seems to be for another symp file....

OK two thoughts.... I don't even want to test this thing again until I can be assured that this HUGE NOISE issue is solved.... it's just too dangerous on this system.

Secondly..... It seems to me that the files being sent up to the ftp dl site are getting lost in the shuffle ... what I'm saying is that I think it's time for a clean total installer with the corrected samples, folder structure, presets, etc.... so that to test further we can reall uninstall previous versions and then just do a clean install.....

Gads... I'm still in shock from the NOISE thing.... I see someone else mentioned it and that they had headphones on at the time... If what happened to me was the same for them, and IF I had had headphones on I would be in serious pain and have hearing damage! Maybe I'll calm down later... but right now, this beta is going OFF my system until I read something further here. What help can I give??? What caused the NOISE?... playing a few notes... that's all...

Hi Max,

I haven't been able to create the noise you mention, using my system. I have tested for extended periods in Cubasis InWired, CubaseSX Demo, and SynthEdit--so far no problems remotely like what you describe.

I know that the sound must have shaken you up at the time, but can't you test some more with the volume on your system turned way down?

I've been concentrating on the Lute most recently, since that was the sound you were playing when the disturbance occured. Can you say anything else about what settings you were using at the time? Which notes you were playing? Anything?

You mentioned that you are using an M-Audio Delta 1010, but I didn't see any mention of which host you are using, which OS, which CPU, etc. Even if you don't want to test anymore, and that's totally up to you, it would be nice to have some more details. For example, it's possible that you have a Pentium of some sort and that my Athlon processor might never replicate your experience. Likewise, I use Win98se, and you might use something else, which is somehow related to triggering the noise.

The more details you can provide, the easier it might be to find the problem.

You also mentioned that someone else had the same problem, but I can't find their posting here. I wonder if you were using the same host they were, or maybe the same OS, or CPU, or something?

I had a massive spike (only once) when playing with the tone section of the instrument when using the bagpipe2 preset. I have yet to recreate that spike (white noise) but am trying my best to do so. I am using Logic 5.5.1 platinum with a creamware pulsar 2, tc powercore, amd xp 2800+, 1 gig corsair ddr ram, scsi 15000rpm drives.

The white noise only lasted a few seconds and can create some damage to your speakers if you have the volume up enough. I noticed with some of the tuning knobs that the volume levels increase and then decrease at random. This might be the reasoning behind the spikes of noise. Perhaps something to look at.

On a positive note.
The bagpipe 2 instrument in the higher octaves is very similar to the Balkanish bagpipe. I am very impressed with it and sounds very real.

As for the Bouzuki .. it needs a little more work to create the realism.

As for the different scale types .. I couldn't get it to go back to normal scale after using the arabic scales. Is there any way to reset this?

Perhaps allowing chords for stringed instruments?

I imagine that you had selected an arabic scale from the menu. Can't you simply scroll through that same menu, and this time select "12 - Equal Tempered", or whatever the exact name is?

I have a comment about the temperament menu, myself. It takes far too long to scroll through the whole list and reset your tuning to a 12 note scale. Could this menu be converted to one with multiple columns, something like the drone split-point menu? That would save a lot of time, and be very convenient, for me at least.

As it is, I'm very tempted to remove several of the tuning files, so the menu doesn't need to be scrolled to see the whole list.

thanks for all reports friends,

we're really sorry for the loud noise it may happen on some system,
the problem so far seems releated to a spike produced by the sample player on some CPU types (P3 it seems, AMD seems not affected) , the spike makes the Reverb explode, with Reverb turned off I was able to play with no noise explosion,

we're working on this issue and soon a new beta with the new SoundSets
will be avaiable as installer.

About the Scale menu I totally agree with McLilith, it's slow and annoying,
I wanna change that, at first I thought simply to keep only few files in the Scale folder, and to keep an archive in a separate folder,
but the idea of multiple columns menu could be good as well,

the only problem can be that the names are quite long, so the menu will be very large, we will try that.

About sounds, buzouki will be changed completely, so far I replaced it
with PickLute1 in the SoundSets update,

EMM would focus mostly on Sitar, Mbira (thumb piano) and Bagpipe sounds

I would add balafon and and other percussive instruments that should fit the EMM design,

any other suggestion? Gamelan bells? Drums?

anyway the achitecture will remain monophonic for EMM, a poly module
will follow, not soon maybe next year, with different features

as i reported in the other thread i had the earsplitting noise with an amd cpu

if i had to say something constructive about the gui it would be this: why not get rid of the outer "wood" frame. all it does is take up screen real estate. i think the whole thing would look tighter without it, while retaining the curry flavour that you were obviously after

i mailed you a jpg describing roughly what i have in mind

oh, and while we're at it, i do have a problem with the word ethnic. i'm an ethnic dane, someone else is ethnic american or something. it makes me wonder who all the non-ethnic people are, and what kind of music they like :?:

Add them all! The question is...Would they all come loaded or would you plan to sell samples or sample packs?...

You're a tease!

"ETHNIC" is often used as a buzzword to imply "exotic"...
The word that smacks me in the face often is "foreignor"...I hear it at least ten times a day here in Tokyo...EVERYTHING is foreign to the natives here(is the word native pc?) :P

ah sorry about not give the system specs,... I just thought the dash guys had mine logged in already: But here goes:

cpu amd athlon 1.4, mobo = abit kt7a-r, ram 1.5 gig, audio = delta 1010, video = ati all in wonder 32 mb ddr.

The vst host in this case was Chainer, which I have used as my first test host since the very first beta version of this synth. [and NEVER had a problem or 'spike' like this] I wish I could somehow send you the sound as 'Massive' is an understatement!!!!

I see where it's been posted that the 'massive spike' don't happen on amd cpu's.... well now at least you know it does!

As far as settings, I really had not even gotten that far so I had not touched anything. This is what I had done:

Loaded the beta into Chainer... opened it and put in the serial, played the default Sitar for a moment, loaded instead the new Shanai Patch, played a few notes along the full range, then loaded the PickLute patch and played a few notes in the range of C4 to C6... then I went to check the scale settings and did not really change anything, just scrolled down to make sure it was at the equal temperment scale... and it was.... so went back to play a few more notes in the same range but played them more rapidly this time as they might be played in a fast arppegio.. and WhammO!... well LOL perhaps it's a nuclear lute?????

I've had occassional outbursts of noise from various vsti's in the past... such as when a note gets stuck or when they are just junk and don't function well... but NEVER anything even near this volumne... I just can't seem to express enough how MASSIVE this was... %^(

The only odd thing I noticed before all this happened what that when loading the PickLute, which is in a folder with the 03 number, that it was oddly at the bottom of the patch list, when I would have expected it to be third patch slot.....

Please keep in mind that from day one, I've really liked this synth... I think it's a great idea! ...and that I've also tested every version of it so far with never a problem like this. I totally repect and believe in the the dash programmers and think their work is great. I would be happy to test this one further IF this one thing gets cleared up...

I hope this helps :help:  :?

ok damn I can't stand it so I've installed the beta again... this time, first without the new patch files.... just the 0.1 full exe install. So far so good...

there was an issue with the new samples that I posted and that was not addressed. Here it is:

in the Mbria rar, when unrar'd, the files in the 04-Mbira1 folder are as follows:

Drone.DASHsnd 63 kb
Mains.DASHsnd 228 kb
Symp.DASHsnd 335 kb
Symp.rar 50 kb

[This is inside the new rar Mbria file that is the separate download]

If I extract the Symp.rar file it gives a Symp.DASHsnd file that is 83 kb, but of course there already is a 50 kb Symp.DASHsnd in the set. What's up with this 'extra' rar file????? ...and which Symp file is the correct one for this patch???

I am going to try replacing the full exe samples with the new one, one at a time this round and see if I get that massive noise again.

.... eye'll BE back ... If I live! :o

Post

hmmmm ok more prob's but now just with the new Samples rar files:

I have a jpeg of the problem but don't know how to make it show up here... please tell me how to post it here....

the short story seems to be that rar files contain extra data, other sub-rar's, that show up after extraction...

this is why I suggested in the first OUCH post, that it might be time for a totally new installer with the new sample sets included.

now maybe I've missed some post of instructions about these 'extra' rar files, but I don't see them mentioned.... does no one else find more than the 3 .DASHsnd files inside the PickedLute rar??????

You see, when I got that Massive Noise, I had just simply replaced the old bazouki folder with the new PickedLute as instructed... so MAYBE the synth was trying to play a rar file??? If so, it's one hellava sound! :?:

Post

Also: I notice there is a developing little prob with the numbering scheme for the samples\patch folders.

right now the are numbered 01,02,03...etc.... so then the one that 'would' be 10 is skipped since that would show up before the 01, right? This is an old story in pc folder or file numbering. The solution is to go to this method:

001, 002, 003.... 010, 011, etc.... that way you have 999 possible folders that will appear in a correct order... right?

The new Nuclear-War-Explosions problem is a memory thing, darn... :( TubiLeSax suffers from the same problem. :(

We are trying to figure out what went wrong on passing memory-variables from one part to another of the synth. Don't worry, we will fix it, is just taking more time than we tought. ;)

Post

 What, Me Worry?

now what can you say about the rar files????

hmmm just read the faq about posting images and have no easy way to do that from a server... but I'll try to mail it to you William so you can see what I'm talking about.

Post

About the RAR files, don't worry about those, it was a mistake. We will remove from future updates. And no, the synth doesn't play those by accident. ;)

On the instances issue with FL Studio again...If I save a tune with say 3 or 4 instances...upon loading, the very last instance does not load and I get the error "fruity wrapper caused an error in loading state"...something like that...try loading this...
