I have some questions about Receptor:
1) If I use it in Cubase - will it take load off my CPU?
2) For example, how many instances of Albino 3 will it run before it runs out of power?
3) Could I compare what Receptor is for VSTs with what UAD-1 is for effects (with the exception that Receptor doesn't have/need his own format for plugins)?
Thanks.

If you use Uniwire you can run both VSTi's and VST FX on the Receptor, and integrate them smoothly into Cubase through Uniwire, thereby taking the load of your CPU indeed. So it runs both instruments and effects, generally as long as they are in Windows VST format. I say generally because the exceptions are those plugins that require special additions to the registry, special authorization methods not supported by the Receptor etc etc. But Muse works hard for us to get as many popular VSTs working as possible.
This should answer 1 and 3
As for 2, I have no xperience with the Albino, so really can't tell. It'll also depend on what Receptor you buy. A new Rev C or a Pro, or maybe a second hand Rev A or B. The latter two are much less powerful. Also, make sure to stack 2 Gigs of memory in it if it's not already there
4. No they don't. At least I don't think they do. The Kore as a device will not work with the Receptor for sure. It needs drivers to function, and those drivers only come in Win and Mac flavour. The Receptor runs a modified Linux OS, so although it runs Win VSTs - which is done through some miraculous programming on Muse's part - it will not run anything else Windows, like programs or drivers.
Kore, the plugin (the soundplatform if you will) in it's initial form needed the device hooked up and working to function. As the Receptor doesn't work with the device, the plugin won't work either. In a later update NI removed the need for the device in the plugin I believe, what that does for the compatibility of the Receptor I cannot tell. Haven't tried it yet. You would probably run into authorization problems anyways. (although Muse is working to get NI's service centre working with the Receptor which would solve all our NI authorization problems).

Oh, I didn't make my question clear about Kore, I think: Will Kore be able to control the VSTIs that are on Recetor, and will I be able to manage the sounds of VSTis on Receptor. I don't want to nstall KORE there.
And thanks for your other answers, they are very helpful. Just need to find out how much ower the thing has

Kore can only access plugins on the computer it's on, so no controlling of VSTs on the Receptor. Nor any sound-management. Kore needs to be installed on Receptor for that.

And why is that? I own both and they can exist simultaniously but just not together. If you want to control VSTi's on the receptor, you can hook up about any midicontroller like the Novation SL, the Axiom etc etc. That takes away the need of the Kore as a controller. The only thing you're missing then is it's patch-manager function, but Kore manages patches in an entirely different way anyways.

It is because I am doing my complete sound management through Kore. And I just like the soft takeover that Kore offers me as a controller. I ditched the Behringer because parameters jump without the soft takeover...

Will KORE send it's controller messages through its MIDI MOUT port? I havent tried that yet. But that might make the KORE a potential controller for the Receptor.

hi there
did you ever get to the bottom of kore and receptor?
the thread ends just at what i want to know.
"can kore control the plug-ins on receptor?" does it send it's controller messages through the midi out port? or only through the usb? but the receptor has 4 usb ports?
hope you can help

I don't own either Kore or a Receptor, but I am most likely going to buy a Receptor+Komplete this week. One thing that has made this a difficult decision is that the Kore+Komplete bundle is currently being offered for $899, about $400 less than the price of Komplete alone. (That makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?) As far as I've been able to determine Kore is useless with a Receptor, because as was stated earlier the Receptor can't host the drivers. It also seems to me that I'll want to use the Receptor's Multi's to manage my patches, so Kore would be redundant with a Receptor.

hey
thanks for reply.
I have pretty much decided to get the receptor with komplete inside.
I like the side of kore that lets me combine several plug-ins as one sound.
Can I do this within receptor? Load one receptor/uniwire plug-in within logic, but then build the patch out of several instruments from komplete?
Do you know if I can control the plug-ins on receptor and write automation with a midi controller?
Cheers man

techsupport, I hope to be able to answer all your questions authoritatively once I have my own Receptor+Komplete. I believe all of those things are possible using the Receptor's Multis. Do you already own Komplete? If so, are you aware that you can buy one of these units for significantly less from Plugorama and just have them use your exisiting license to authorize the NI software?

hi mate
I look forward to your info and experience with this box. I do already have Komplete 4, and am aware of the other price, just have not made up my mind yet about changing my whole system or not.
My main motivation for getting receptor is that I have a G5 2.7 dual with 6Gig of ram, but still get into situations where I cannot bounce a track because of CPU overload.
Please let me know how you get on, cheers.

Great news techsupport - I just ordered the Receptor/Komplete from Sweetwater. This means that within 24 hours a much cheaper model with much better features will be announced. Enjoy it!
