One thing that makes unison mode sound different from Zebra's quad oscillators - and is particularl noticeable in the attack - is that Virus osc 3 is a slave, it's initial phase is linked to osc 2. So: Three of the 9 unison voices in the Virus original are giving a bit of sweeping "reset phase" type attack to the sound.

http://www.box.net/shared/n64qum0dvy is a clone of the Virus arp patch for Zebra2. Uses two quad oscs plus a dual osc, with the latter resetting phase for a bit of that "attack".

Push mod wheel for cutoff, and go to the performance page to do the rest!
I assume it will also work with the non-public-beta version...

Edit: Here's an MP3 of the patch in action

I called it "HS-Zebrus-Final" because I can't stand that damned arp any longer!
Sounds really good, Howard. The real difference is actually the phaser. So what? :D

Thanx for the preset.

I didn't write that the difference has anything to do with the phaser.

Yes, the osc output appears to "semi free running" as a result. I also noticed that in addition to the reset phase type effect with the slaved oscillator the actual wave produced from osc 2 sounds more like a pulse width modulated wave than a saw. The nearest approximation to this sound that I could produce with Zebra 2 was by using PWM.

I'm with you on the "final" thing! I look forward to the day that I've forgotten all about that arp.

Roger :)

Oops, sorry. Maybe i didn't use the phrase "so what" correctly? I actually meant "Was solls?"
Wanted to say that I'm not really interested in the phaser but in the synth stuff which is really good for me.

Yes, I will have a look at the Virus basses later.

Hm, maybe ... :D

Seems you're still under the impression I was talking about the phaser... nobody has mentioned the phaser recently!

The mail you quoted mentioned "phase" in a completely different context - I was talking about the difference between Z2 "unison" OSCILLATORS (i.e. dual or quad) vs the Virus unison VOICES.

I think he means the difference of the phaser effect in your soundclip vs. the original Virus MP3.

Ah - thanks Peter! Damn words... The reason for my confusion: Phaser is a device, Phasing is an audible effect. Shogger (and you, btw!) keep writing "phaser" instead.

I'll get me coat... :?

No prob Howard. Peter is right, I was talking about that FX thingy not the phase stuff with the unisone you where talking about earlier.

Pretty good, at least in my humble "non-synth-tweakers" opinion. Not exactly trying to resemble the original, but the sound is rich and full IMO. A very proper attempt.
