Here's a link to an article in the current issue of Keyboard magazine about using the Receptor for live performance. I think this will answer some of your questions.

NOPE Receptor and CORE are not Friends.

you have to install your NI apps on Receptor to get the BEST out of them.
whats good about the Receptor Multis is that you can build big @$$ patches out of many different types of VST's (efx-inst).
CORE only runs "NI" stuff and its POWER runs on the CPU NOT that Soundcard thingy

Hello Techsupport, and sorry to take so long to reply.
I got the Receptor/Komplete package and have been playing with it for the past few days. I can offer some initial impressions. The Komplete software seems reasonably stable and everything works well. The Receptor crashed twice while loading large Kontakt libraries, something I've heard reports of elsewhere. I've read complaints on the NI forums that NI VSTs can be very demanding on CPUs. This certainly seems to be the case with Akoustik Piano. Just one instance of this plug taxes the Receptor's CPU almost to its limit, and layering any other VSTs on other channels generally produces clicks as piano samples fail to be loaded from the drive. I've read here that Ivory can run with a very low sample buffer, but Akoustic Piano seems to require a 128 sample buffer at a minimum, and I can feel the latency at this setting. I don't feel like I'm directly playing the instrument. The piano samples and resonance emulations are well done though. Reaktor works and sounds amazing, as does the Prophet emulation. I think the factory presets for Absynth and FM-8 are atrocious, (how many arpeggiated patches do they think I need?) but I'm sure these synths can do wonderful things with the right material. I'm extremely unimpressed with the Vienna symphonic samples included with Kontakt. Mostly useless to my ears. As I say, these are initial impressions. This is an enormous amount of software, and some very powerful, complex tools. If you don't already own Komplete and a Receptor this package is hard to resist, and I do recommend it highly.

thanks for the info.
question: what receptor configuration do you have? (ram and hard drive etc..?)
thanks

As far as I know the Receptor/Komplete package is always the standard Receptor C with OS 1.6, 2 GIG RAM installed and a 160 meg HD. That's what I got from Sweetwater.

From what I've seen I wouldn't try to run most of the NI plug-ins with any less processing power or RAM installed, and I've come to the conclusion that the Receptor/Komplete should have been bundled around the more powerful Receptor Pro. Of course I wouldn't have been able to afford it then.

Okay,

I've read this whole thread and need clarification from the following things:

1. Yes/No. Does KORE work at all with MUSE Receptor?
2. Since KORE seems to have exceptional navigation of all the presets into categories (like on the Roland JV-2080 and Fantom with the groupings-this is mondo importante when looking for the right sound in the middle of a creative process) what does that MUSE offer in place of that sound surfing that doesn't interrupt the creative process?
3. If KORE doesn't work here, what about using the Novation Zero controller for MIDI stuff on the MUSE Receptor?
4. While I'm using Reason for most of my composition right now, the Sounds Online Ministry of Rock library looks awesome to me in addition to the MUSE Komplete. What I want to know is:

4a: Does the ministry of Rock work with MUSE?
4b: I'm using a Mac G4 1.5Ghz for my system now. I'm needing to look at MUSE given my limited native DSP. How do these plug-ins work on the MUSE. Can I get more than one instance going?
4c: I need killer drums. Help? Any suggestions since the drums on Reason aren't up to my taste and I've been eyeballing the massive DSP intensive Drums From Hell, StormDrum, etc. kinds of libraries. Which worx on the MUSE?

Thanks.

Be forewarned - if you are looking to use multiple setups that are anything more than one voice across the entire range of the keyboard, this is *really* klunky with the Receptor, nothing near what Kore gives you. I made the mistake of assuming that the Receptor would do what Kore does since they are both essentially VST hosts made for live performance, but I pretty much wasted my money.

Do you know if I can control the plug-ins on receptor and write automation with a midi controller?
[/quote]

1. You can do many "kore-like" things in Receptor, and combining several plugins to create a sound is without a doubt one of the most powerful aspects of Receptor (and saving them as a multi). Yes, it is true that Kore does not currently work on Receptor, and I can't say anything official or the engineers will come into my office and disable my internet connection.

2. Pretty much everything is MIDI controllable in Receptor, and as such it is certainly automatable. (yeah, I know, that's not a word, but it sure sounds right).

And an unrelated answer: Receptor Komplete will not be obsolete in the next 24 hours!
