The (old) new VST incompatibility thread

well the existing VST problem thread is getting a bit old and tired now, so it's about time we started a new one!
And it's a good opportunity to ask if there are any outstanding VST problems that I might have forgotten about?
As far as I know the only problems getting reported recently have been bugs in the plugins themselves, but does anyone still have any problems that I might actually be able to do something about?

I've only had the program for less than a day, so please bear with me if some of these have already been reported:
Steinberg Groove Agent -- The plug-in works, but this VSTi is unique in that it can output MIDI back to the host. Currently, I don't see a way to record the MIDI that it is outputting... so it's not really an issue, but it's something that I wanted to mention in case future VSTi synths take this approach as well.
StepChild Beta Step Sequencer -- For some reason, it always freezes my PC when trying to use the drag-and-drop function (but it works great in SONAR though). By "freeze", I mean that I have to manually power down the PC and reboot -- CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't work when this happens.
Applied Acoustics Lounge Lizard 2 and Tassman 3 -- The electric piano presets seem to go out of tune almost randomly. Changing the audio sampling rate in the Tracktion settings seems to correct this, but it's still a bit puzzling to me why this is happening. Some other users on the AA boards were reporting similar behavior.
That's all that I have noticed for now... I have many instruments though, so I'll see if I can test some more out soon.

Well for my part, Xphraze' proprietary patch browser lists empty patches. They have to be loaded thru individual Fxp's.
Also, Superquartet patch browsing «lthough thats Roland's problem because it has never worked anywhere else.( Patch does not save with song) . So I am submtitting this anyways in case you are a miracle maker.
Thanks !

I think the new v1.5 update to SuperQuartet might address that problem... now if only EDIROL will post it on their site (it's only on the Japanese site right now)!

thanks, but there aren't many things in there I can help with - I really don't want a thread full of bugs in plugins - I just want examples of plugins that work ok in other hosts but not tracktion. I'll have a look at the xphrase thing, but the rest aren't relevant.
There are actually a lot of plugins that output midi, and I've been asked this before. The bottom line is that there's no real reason to record the midi - just put a destination plugin further down the chain to make use of it. There's another thread about this somewhere, so please don't discuss it here!Steinberg Groove Agent -- The plug-in works, but this VSTi is unique in that it can output MIDI back to the host. Thanks... I just discovered the Search button on the forum, so I won't bother you anymore with repeat questions.

Turn OFF real time priority mode in the Tracktion settings panel, and Stepchild will no longer freeze your PC during drag and drop. It's a bug in stepchild that I haven't been able to track down yet. However, if you turn of real time mode which shouldn't effect anything... it'll drag and drop fine. Hope that helps.PaintedBlue wrote:StepChild Beta Step Sequencer -- For some reason, it always freezes my PC when trying to use the drag-and-drop function (but it works great in SONAR though). i haven't actually used groove agent myself, so this may be wrong, but if i have understood things correctly, the point with recording the midi output would be to be able to edit it. i don't think groove agent allows this internally, but if i am wrong, just ignore me.

Sigh. I have been posting this x times, but why not post it another time?
Groove Agent is working perfectly in Tracktion and recording Midi is actually much easier than in any other host I know of. Here's the deal:
1.) insert an instance of GrooveAgent into a track
2.) play it with your Midi keyboard – notes up from C3 trigger the different patterns of one style (well, depends on the Midi channel actually – RTFM )
3.) now start recording – hit any note from C3 up and GrooveAgent starts playing. Hit another note to change the pattern or insert a fill if you like…and so on.
4.) Stop recording – what you see now, is a midi file with just a couple of notes – that’s fine.
5.) Go to GrooveAgent and enable the Midi out option.
6.) Now select that clip you just created
7.) Go to “export – create a midi file”, check the “only render selected clips” option. Define the name and destination and hit “render”.
8.) Then go to the Windows folder where the newly created Midi file has been saved to and drag’n’drop it onto the Tracktion edit

Thanks, Pädy. I actually saw your old message about this and found it very helpful. Indeed, Tracktion supports GA better than any other host that I have used.
However, I think that cellular was just responding to jules' earlier point by suggesting that routing the MIDI Out back to the track (or another track) is useful for something like GA, as most users will want to go back and edit the individual note events in the Piano Roll instead of working with an audio clip.
Personally, I am happy with how it works after reading your explanation, since it is downright frustrating in SONAR.

This is exactly what you can do, after you've followed my step-by-step procedure. Point 7.) reads "export - create a MIDI file".PaintedBlue wrote: However, I think that cellular was just responding to jules' earlier point by suggesting that routing the MIDI Out back to the track (or another track) is useful for something like GA, as most users will want to go back and edit the individual note events in the Piano Roll instead of working with an audio clip.

Ok, I looked at the PPG Wave - and remembered that this is an old issue - it came up ages ago, and it's not tracktion's fault - the PPG just doesn't get/set parameters correctly in the demo (I've not got the full version to try, but if that doesn't work then they need to sort it out, because it's really not behaving properly).
Xphrase - this is an internal problem, god knows why their stupid browser thing doesn't show subfolders, but it's certainly nothing to do with me!
