MIDI export is cool but it's still not convenient when you are composing and trying different patterns out with a song. Changing a midi trigger note is so much easier

my workflow is usually like this:
1) I try the various sections of the song composing the patterns in the DK+ seq,
and I use the mouse to change pattern and listen (since I also use mouse to comopse the patterns, <grin>)
2) drag&drop the patterns I choose
3) build up the MIDI track in the Host with the exported patterns, fine adjusting timing and velocity, groove, making unique fills, etc...
4) if I don't like a part no more, I loop that song section, mute the VST midi track, switch the DK+ seq on and compose a new pattern. Then go to point 2.
So as user I find both MIDI gating or triggering
of patterns useless, but if I would use a keyboard to switch in realtime different patterns I would need the current switching method as otherwise triggering would not start in sync.
AFAIR triggering is only useful when you program by step, that is you place by mouse the triggering note in the piano roll in the quantize grid, right? So you can have the pattern to start where you want, but I can do the same with the MIDI pattern once exported.
So I just don't understand why is it so important to place the pattern offset by the bar start before you export it for serious editing. After all the the DK+ seq can only make draft 32th quantized patterns.
Pease tell me more, <grin>
which music do you guys make? How is you work flow? And in which host you use DK+?
Thanks

Workflow was as you describe but ....
I would rather edit loads of variations in DK+ then trigger by note - it's easy just to drag the note up and down in host midi editor - as I'm previewing in context as the host runs (the triggering does not need to be real time as I'd be running loop in host). I just find this quicker than exporting MIDI. Of course when I'm happy with things I'd export the patterns for tweaking but not 'till I'm happy with the song arrangement.
Host is T2/3.

I don't enjoy using the midi editor, but I do enjoy editing in dk+. To me editing in dk+ and then triggering feels like I'm making music - using the midi-editor feels like I'm an accountant (no offense to any accountants out there
Usually when I'm programing drums it is for myself, and not for clients (although I have used the ethno set for clients on occasion). So, seeing I'm using it for myself, I want to enjoy, and not be frustrated by the experience.
If dk+ was my only tool for drums I would "suck it up" and export each section to midi, and edit it there, but seeing I have other options I don't use dk+ near as often as I would if this small issue was worked out.
Also as we discussed a long time ago, I think this could be a great feature to attract new customers, and the "triggering" could even be incorporated into the "steps" page or better yet have a new page for arrangement where you could set up the order and duration of each pattern and perhaps give them aliases (ie pattern a = verse 1, etc.)
I would be happy with true triggering, but would be thrilled with an arrangement page.
But, thats just me.

what about a simple switch for those two operation modes which both have their advantages and disadvantages?
btw, what is the schedule, will there be a DK+ update this year?

of course I will keep the current mode as well if I add the other one,AKJ wrote:what about a simple switch for those two operation modes which both have their advantages and disadvantages?

and you are right to ask about the schedule,
as it's filled for some months already,
so hardly DK+ updated this year, but I will tell more in October

The ability to layer samples, not velocity layer but two or more samples played at the same time and not randomly. Say you have a snare sample that you really like the attack part and another snare sample that you really like the sound of the body and decay. By layering these samples you get a whole new sound and the creative options are endless. I've done this in DK+ already using two separate pads set to the same midi note but you can see how having the ability to do it within the pad layers themselves would be better. Layering kicks is also lots of fun, toms as well. Rides, hats and crashes not so much. Don't know if it would be possible to implement, maybe a "Random Off' option where instead of two samples with the same velocity value being played one at a time in a random fashion, both would play at the same time? This function is available in all the other drum machines I use.

Yes, thanks for the feedback, it could be indeed a nice feature to add to version 2.0 we're working on,
so we'd have 10 sample slots for pad, with 3 options:
- velocity split playback
- weighted random playback
- same time playback with level per sample

(btw, glad to see you back!)
The mind boggles.

Another one...
.dk+ format is not 100% notepad editable, like .sfz for instance. It would be nice if it was...
Off topic; Is there a difference in purchasing DK+ from nusofting or from dontcrack.com? In this times of recession man must watch for every $
