Zebra, Vista don't like each other?

Hey everyone,

Here's an odd one. Just bought a new laptop, and to my horror it came with Vista. Luckily, all my VSTi's still work fine, played either using an Echo Indigo ASIO PCMCIA cardbus or by using ASIO4ALL in TobyBear's minihost...except two: Zebra and Wusikstation. Now, Wusik's problems are well-documented and William's working on a fix. But it seems like only I am having trouble with Zebra (and Zebralette, too).

Unlike Wusik, Zebra opens fine, shows it's registered to me, and lets me load presets. But when it is loaded, minihost reports that regardless of the driver (ASIO4ALL or Echo Indigo) that there are no audio outputs. I'd think it is a problem with minihost and time to buy a real host, but I don't have that problem with Sampletank, Rhino, FM7, or Akoustik Piano, all of which work fine with that setup.

Has anyone encountered that problem before?

(PS: Otherwise, Vista seems to work fine with all the other pluggies. Whew.)

If you're wondering it's your host, you can give the free Cantabile Lite 1.2 a try. Heck, you could also download Ableton Live or Reaper just to test the VST functionality.

You're the first I've hard of problems with Z2 and Vista. That means that it's TobyBear, or no one here is running Vista. :)

I demoed Zebra in Vista and had no such problems with it in Cubase 4 Studio - so checking another might be a good idea.

I'm working on Vista, too, so that shouldn't be a problem...

I'd firstly say http://www.u-he.com/Zebra22b5Win.zip and then I'd recommend Savihost:

This is what I currently use under Vista and havn't had any problems yet.

Cheers,

;) Urs

Spacefox, bmrzycki, thanks for your help and quick replies!

Urs: You the MAN. 8) Can't believe getting this sort of support from devs. PM for a nice gift in thanks for quick fix. (I wish NI had an inkling of what gratitude this sort of support creates...I'm still waiting on their reply of how to re-register Akoustik Piano almost a week after their automated reg server went down).

Maybe spoke too soon. Savihost and Z2.2b5 have a similar problem...Savihost won't recognize any ASIO drivers when Z2 is loaded. This is not a problem when using Savihost with other plugs. This is the same type of behavior that Minihost showed. Specifically, Savihost will play through the high-latency built-in Windows drivers (I forget what they're called - Microsoft Media Drivers?), but leaves all ASIO settings greyed out. It recognizes both ASIO drivers that I have installed when other plugs are loaded.

Now that's just weird. Since it seems like I'm the only one with this problem I have no expectations for a fix...I'll give bmrzycki's suggestion a try, and if it works I'll get him a few vowels for his name in thanks. :)

 Vowels are overrated, we have 20 other letters that need love too!

Just to end this thread: the problem was with my stupidity, not with Zebra, or any of the hosts under Windows Vista. I forgot to copy the ASIO driver  . Now I can say: Vista seems to work flawlessly with all my plugs, including Z2 and the registered versions of Kontakt, FM7, Akoustik Piano, the demo of Massive, and the full versions of Sonar, Rhino, and Sampletank. The only thing it chokes on is Wusikstation. Much, much better than I feared.

Phewwww!

Glad you worked that one out! 8)
