Last night I installed the Scarbee VKGB on my Rev C Receptor. I followed Bryan's very helpful installation notes from this forum -thanks for those. The install went smoothly, though for the uninitiated, allow plenty of time. I've only had a short time so far to play the instruments, mostly the CEP (Rhodes). What a pleasure to play - controlled from my Yamaha S90ES! I owned several Rhodes back in the day (a few different stages and one really terrific suitcase). I know there's nothing like the real thing, and I don't want to get into that argument; but these sounds are what I recall always trying to coax out my "real" Rhodes. By the way, stretch the budget if you have to and purchase the VKFX (effects) - they make a huge difference. I look forward to spending more time with this software. I'm running the 16 bit, 12 velocity sample sets in Kontakt 2 with zero problems so far. I'm still trying to get a handle on Kontakt 2 (another recent install)- much to learn. Although (Receptor is) occasionally frustrating, great software like this keeps me very happy (and busy) (and broke?) with my Receptor purchase - thanks Muse and Scarbee.

I'll second that; this is a very sweet sounding combination (w/VKFX). Aside from the time it took to copy the samples, I didn't run into any problems installing and the time and effort was well worth the outcome.

I'd like to get a straw poll here... I was at the Crowded House concert the other day and they wanted to use a Receptor for a piano sound, specifically Ivory (they already use Receptor for Kontakt and B4). Needless to say, they could immediately hear the difference from their Rompler keyboard piano sound, and they even mentioned Receptor in the concert that night (!)

During the sound check, they wanted to hear the best Wurly's that are on Receptor, as a possible replacement for an actual (not very reliable, so I'm told) wurly they tour with.

What's the general consensus on the best Wurly virtual instrument out there? Unfortunately I didn't have Scarbee installed on the unit... but they were very impressed with Lounge Lizard 3...

Any thoughts on available solutions?

I personally prefer Mr Tramp over LL, and it's free. For a small fee, you can theoretically get rid of the nag screen, but that doesn't work on Receptor (meaning the nag screen is unavoidable, but only there for a few seconds). I recorded my real Wurly on an album, and had to replace a section with Mr Tramp because my Wurly wasn't around, and you seriously couldn't tell in the mix.

Funny, because something like Mr Tramp is penalised for being close to free, by people not taking it seriously :shrug:

Hi Bryan,

While I love the convenience of Mr Tramp / Mr Ray (eg low ram reqs, good sound), My preferences go in favor of the Scarbee libs. I've been using the 'lite' sample sets in Kontakt, and they sound great. Rumour has it the full-blown sample sets run on the latest Kontakt on Receptor, and they sound great.

Of course, I'd only recommend one of these, based on what the client was trying to confiigure at the given time (eg. if they were simultaneaously running Ivory or some other Rompler, I might recommend Mr Tramp/Mr Ray since they wouldn't battle for RAM).

Also, in either case, I would recommend the VKFX on either of those plugs.
