I'd like to see someone develop a VST / AU host geared towards hosting drum machines such as battery. This would help to do some quick n dirty MPC style sequencing.

If the host had the option to resize itself based on the size of the plugin its hosting and just have a midi sequencer window below the main interface (so you could constantly see the plugin interface)with maybe the ability to host two or three effects. Not a hugely in depth seqeuncer but enough to throw together some patterns and bounce as audio.

What do you think?
Abso-freakin'-lutely! Long overdue IMHO. I'm surprised this hasn't really come up yet.

Also, make it work as a VST as well as a host.

Gets my vote in a heartbeat.

So many plugins, so little time...
i've an idea that i've somewhat been implementing manually in an audio editor:
first analyze a source audio file and extract general pitch, amp, formant, etc. characteristics.
next, search all audio files in a selected folder and extract matching sections of audio.
third, put them all together with some dreamy interpolation/anti-aliasing method to essentially arrive at a frankenstein version of the source audio file...but not nearly as ugly.

i would imagine this would be a standalone application and certainly not realtime.
If you go to Dan Ellis' page (he's a professor at Columbia University), you will find something quite similar to this in his downloadable MATLAB code. You will find it in his 'sinewave extraction' code.

Well, I guess that was stupid to type - here is a direct link to his stuff...

However, you might find this is not 'frankenstein' enough. It actually works really well to make a small sized model of a time history for playback. He also has some really cool stuff for doing automatic identification of a song - the title of the song, that is, based on analysis similar to the stuff you ask for.

Most of the Matlab stuff is fairly standard DSP stuff, with perhaps the exception of the 'synthtrax' command - but the source code for that command is there as well.

I think an enterprising coder could knock this out with a decent SDK with DSP.

Now that the compo has had all it's entries submitted I think I can say that my entry this year is very similar to the thing Armored78 was whishing for, but far from an exact match.

how about a two-osc synth with ENVELOPES FOR EACH OSC ala the poly 800? throw delay and a 256 step sequencer in there and call it the poly 800 mkii.
