What did you think of the Oddy Free?

I thought it was a good emu of an Odyssey MK. II

I think it's great, but I would never use it. It's too dated/eccentric of purpose.

Dude, seriously, make something other than virtual analogs for a change.

Love the synth, but I have the same 'Container' problem in Bidule. Try setting the window name, manufacturer, and title in the next SynthEdit compile.

I had a loan of a real ARP Oddysey once, this is VERY close, the original's high-end was a bit duller.

This is way fatter than gmedia's emulation :-o

I noticed a typo : "resonace" should be written "resonance".
noted. i'd like to send chris all the gui fixes at once. i'm aware of the poor contrast with the switches. anything else?

The Oddy-Free is emulated very well.
He sounds almost still better than the emu of Voltkitchens Arp.
I love the rough charm such "Old Ladies".
Nice work :)

Ooopss .... I have found a link to a complete Synth-Edit prefab here:

Next year I build my own Oddysse and win the contest.

You won't have used approximately the Prefab file anyway?
No, or? No ... I don't think, or ?? ;)

Hi,

Your monophonic synthesizer is good ! :)

good skin, easy to use, good parameter implementation .

but I don't think so this one has the ARP sounding... maybe I can make a mistake to say this because I was playing on it so far...

It's not really important because the majority of SE VA are not real sim. And the majority of the users have never use hardware vintages...
In fact, the actual users prefer the analog numeric sounds... I'm not sure that they enjoy the smooth vintage sound.

Ps: See my author's note of my site and you will understand why I sent you this post.

I don't know if you have made some other synthesizers but this one is good.

Thank you for the compliment on the synth, but I'm a little puzzled:

Are you seriously implying that I stole code? Cause that's what I'm feeling from your post. If you're not, then I apologize, but if you are I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't insult my integrity and hard work in that way. I built it from scratch, it's my hours of wiring the modules together. If you think I stole the design because OH-MY-GOODNESS that Arp Odyssey emu has the same layout as my Arp Odyssey emu, you're pretty stupid, cause if mine didn't have the same layout as a real Odyssey, it wouldn't be an Odyssey emu.

Again I apologize if you meant nothing of the sort, but that's what I'm feeling from it.

Again with the somewhat ambiguous posts. :P

I thank you for the compliments, but I find your point a little odd, if I'm gathering it correctly: You think that even though my synth isn't a good emu, that point is fine just because it's SE? I kinda don't agree with that philosophy, which is why especially after the competition is over I'll be updating my synth with a lot of possible tweaks and optimizations.

I haven't had a chance to try out any of the other competitors entries yet, but I will make time when I get home from University today to try yours in particular. After reading your Author's Note I want to see how you actually go about applying that ideology.

And as a matter of fact I have made quite a few other notable synths, in particular the 'TerVoxSyn' Theremin sim (which oddly and sadly for me is more popular in Europe than it is here stateside, or as best I can guess from the emails I get), and also the Mini-Vyn virtual analog that was in last years Developer Competition.

Thanks dreaddd, I wish everyone else felt the same. :(

But oh well, can't win 'em all.

No I don't think that.

I think you can do a good emu, it's not really a problem.

Taken from the announcement post where I reviewed a few synths...

Oddy Free - Didn't think it could come close, but it was really convincing! This was one of my favorite synths tested. My only complaints are lack of presets and the GUI. The "Marble" looking splatter painted front isn't very pretty, but can also make it hard to read the buttons. Small complaints, but it's still very, very worth it. Great synth.

i was going for the old baked on finish look. the light reflects differently all over the surface. this is from memory of playing with older hardware years ago. oddly, i used eye candy's marble plug  .

maybe i should have made the slider covers truer to the less saturated vinyl covers, but i felt the gui needed a bright spot :D

i love oddy it's go a great sound; its now found itself on bass duty in most of my recent tracks. I just wish the gui was not so dark; it needs to be lighter the marbled effect just dosn't come off right. I rember the old mottled synth fascias, it worked in real life but the image just dosen't capture it.

thanks for your kick ass synth creations.

You're quite welcome, I very much enjoy making them. :)

Most anything I've heard back from the TerVoxSyn has been good reviews, I think the only folks that really hated it were the ones that thought Theremins only produced sine waves, so honestly their opinion on the matter of accuracy kind of was useless to me.

But also, to sort of appease the wants of folks that would rather me do other things than just emulations, I am working extensively on a project that bridges a few different synthesis methods together rather uniquely. It's not new methods, but more like a different way of combining the methods. It was actually going to be my entry for this Developer's Competition, but I thought I had a true winner with the Oddy and once androidlove sent me the GUI I knew for sure it would do well. The main point is it's very very far along in developement, all it needs is a good GUI itself (any takers I'd be glad to entertain ideas and artwork. ;) ) and implementation of a few more intermodulation algorithms, and it should be good. Honestly though, on the count of the interface, it's a mess of organization right now, the sound engine is fantastic though.

Anywho, as I finish going on and on, thank you again for the kind words and hopefully I'll be able to provide countless other good synths. :)

Sincerely,
Chris Roberson
