I think it's great, but I would never use it. It's too dated/eccentric of purpose.

Dude, seriously, make something other than virtual analogs for a change.

EDIT: This version looks okay to me on a 17" screen, any better?
I like this GUI better than the current one. Can't it be optional? Just make two versions?

This is turning out to be a nice exercise, whether it gets used or not. :)

Another update, this one has a bit more realism but does lose a little bit of the contrast. I didn't think it'd look much good it's growing on me:

Nice! Getting even better.

the bumps and lighting make it look real. the font is easier to read. chris, if you go with this one instead of my cartoonish gui, could you desaturate the slider covers to add to the realism?

That last gui looks great. I would still like to see a lighter one though just a preference, blue meanie facia anyone?

suggestion:

maybe replace the yellow with white, chris uses it as a mask layer (might have to invert it.. maybe multiply or darken in photoshop..) and removes his old text/panel groups layers..

..that way you keep the bumpmapping, texture, contrast, but gain the more legible type :)

Well if we're all going to get picky about this GUI can I get the most recent one where the slider trails look they've been cut out of something as opposed to just solid black lines? Not sure how you'd accomplish that, but that's my suggestion :P .

Post

Well, I gotta admit I'm really stoked with how much effort is being put forth on this. :)

Also, while I wasn't keen on changing things up too much before, that last GUI really made an impression on me. The only thing I'd consider on it is something like Funkybot mentioned, if there were any way to slickly give the impression that the slider inlets were in fact recessed from a front panel instead of looking so 2D compared to the rest of the panel. It's not a huge thing if you can't, but that's all I'd suggest. I will be working with the last face panel for the time being though, because it is indeed a bit of an easier read and I'm a sucker for bumpmapped textures.

On the matter of the slider caps, androidlove is there a way you can remove the black square area around the image of the caps? I think it's just SE having a problem with an alpha layer, but if not you removing it could you tell me a way I could remove it on my end? I've been having trouble with it and it really does stand out more on the new faceplate. I can take care of the desaturation procedure though.

Thanks again to all of you. We just may have something big on our hands if we progress like this. :) I couldn't be getting anywhere near this far without all of your supports.

OK, scratch the problem with black area around the slider tips, that problem is fixed. Also, I don't believe the colors need be desaturated, they sit rather well with the color scheme already.

Chris, I am your humble servant:

I'm glad you like the previous version, hope this is what you had in mind. Agree that the slider caps should remain unchanged, let me know if you have any other suggestions.

It's looking fantastic Modeler, I'll try a recompile with it tonight to see if it works well. :)

The presets are great! In Synthedit, you have a container with like midi in on the left, and then audio out on the right at least, then you'd click on your container to go inside it to build a synth. Well right click on the container itself, and one of those options there is where you can name it. Then the container would say "Oddy" , as opposed to saying container.

Thanks for the thumbs-up.

The proper plug name issue is one that has been addressed with the update to version 1.1 .

I would be appreciative though of you if you could test the update when released to see if that problem is fixed, because I can't reproduce that error in any of my hosts and I don't have the hosts mentioned that are known to have this problem.

Sincerely,
Chris Roberson.

MC-Pee wrote:In my opinion she is with the oddy-Free version of Chris Roberson identical.
In all fairness, I think what MC-Pee is saying here is that he believes the overall output and behaviour of his Odyssey plug-in to be identical to Chris's. In other words, by saying they are "the same" is not necessarily implying that Chris used Richard Brooks' prefab as well.

I'm not sure you deserved to get jumped all over, having said that I agree with the others to some extent. However, my particular concern is that you have used my artwork for this project. Although I am proud to see my creations put to good use and encourage sharing, I am not best pleased about this for the following reasons:

1. You did not ask my permission to use my artwork, it has been clearly lifted from this thread and nowhere have I stated that these bitmaps fall under the Creative Commons / ShareAlike or similar licence (point 3 explains the reason for this).

2. You did not credit me for the use of said artwork in the readme file that accompanies the binary, or anywhere else. Not cool.

3. This GUI was created specifically for Oddy-Free, based on androidlove's original layout. Although I believe people should share their works freely with the world (your plug-in is also free of course), these bitmaps are part of Chris's project and do not belong anywhere else at this time.

Because Oddy-Free is freeware, that does not mean it is not covered by copyrights (artwork included) so at this stage, you are no more entitled to use these bitmaps in your own works than you are to copy the graphics from an Arturia or G-Force synth. I did not design the Arp Odyssey itself so I cannot claim that this artwork is entirely my own intellectual property. However, for the short-term may I ask that you do not distribute your synth with my artwork please?

Thanks.
