windows installer OS modification on its way?

I noticed martin hines in the 'komplete 5 available' topic mentioning that muse research is working on a modification of the OS, which will make it possible to use regular windows installers. Is this a rumor/true? I'm mainly asking this because i'm on the verge of buying a receptor myself, and want to know if this is something that will be upgradable from older receptors, or just coming with a new model. In the last case i might consider waiting a bit :D.

As far as I am aware, all the Receptor system updates have been backwardly compatible. I've owned my Receptor rev C for almost a year and am very happy with the purchase. Muse seems very good at allowing owners to keep up-to-date with current systems - and even hardware changes if one wants to pay for the upgrade. When I purchased mine, I never thought I would need more than 160 GB hard drive; but after installing Ivory Italian Grand last night - the drive is nearly full. It's a great GREAT tool/instrument.

Muse IS working on an OS modification to support running Windows installers directly on the Receptor. However they have never made any official statement as to when to expect this capability.

Running Windows installers should all be OS based, not hardware, but you could always contact Muse directly.

I wish Muse luck with this OS update that will run Windows installers, but I simply don't believe it's possible.

If these guys can figure out a way to run Windows applications on a Linux kernal without violating Microsoft's patents they will be too busy sipping martinis on their new yachts in the French Riviera to worry much about the electronic music market.

Well guys,

It is already possible to run (some) Windows installers directly on Receptor -- the thing is, this is not a "user operation"

Please read this thread. You can ignore the bits about connecting a CDROM drive. It does disscuss how you can run windows installers directly.

its not illegal to run windows apps without windows, thats why WINE exists.
thats what Receptor uses to run VST's.
its just a matter of MUSE making a way for NON UNIX people to install ".EXE" on there own.
this IS already available for WINE GEEKS but not for the power user musician.

+1 on this and many kudos to Kevin!

Using this technique, I have gotten MANY installers to work for plugins that would NEVER RUN by using the unsupported method (ex. Ravity).
