How many tracks do you use in your songs?

Never more than 20 but usually between 10 and 16. Some tracks will have 3 to 7 instruments on them though. I also use tons of bus channels but I don't think those really count as tracks because they are only for routing purposes.

if i had individual samples on tracks rather than create each one individually i guess i could have hundreds, but as it is i build the samples over time then load em into one stereo out sampler with fx in line and what you hear is a one shot recording, if i f**k up i start again...
the rare times i use sequencing these days i do use a fair few tracks but i dont think ive ever passed 100, more if i was going to count automation as tracks...

pffh. it's probably dual-phase change cooled down to -50c for that kind of performance.blaster78 wrote:nah, sonar on a pcjoshhunsaker wrote:let me guess...blaster78 wrote:only one was that big, the average was much lower, and i just counted all the tracks so loads of mine will be automation and stuff. The Chase wrote:211

The track I'm working on at the moment has 19 tracks so far - that's with drums, bass, guitars and guitar overdubs. The vocals still need to be recorded and I'm projecting another 5 to 6 tracks for vocals and vocal overdubs. So I'll probably end up with something like 24 tracks, which is what I usually get (most of my songs use 16 - 24 tracks). I'll rarely go higher unless there's a lot of different instruments playing.

In general, when I make a submix...

For electronic stuff something like 10-20 tracks. With symphonic elements included it's about 20-60 tracks more depending on the size and scope of the orchestral elements. For rock based stuff about 20-30 is usually enough and for some ethnic and weird stuff maybe around 30 tracks.
