Wineasio can have some things done better than in Windows. Some worse as well.
For me win version of EnergyXT2 and Sonar4 work splendid under winesaio. Traction3 and Reason4 (yes - with many problems but it runs) needs big (over 512 samples) buffer to not crackle. Then there are lots of options to tweak and new version of wine to come.

Wineasio feels like it's something on an edge of becoming really good alternative to Windows even including DAWs. Perhaps it will happen in a next week, perhaps in 5 years. But it's already in such sophisticated state it feels almost as sure bet.

note: this is with energyXT1.4.1, not xt2.

hmmmmm..... what could this mean? I'm still getting familiar with wine. Does wineasio REQUIRE a RT kernel configuration? I don't feel like setting that up right now (partly because I don't want to deal with portage overlays, and I have little need for better latency).

can I dispose of wineasio after I regsvr32 it? Also I'm not using the latest version of wine(again portage laziness, only 0.9.39).

I also do not want to deal with jack, is there a dependency here???

Surge works but it crashes with pixmap errors when browsing presets. I'll keep working on it.

ps fax | grep wine or asio does not do anything, so Im not sure what the in process error is all about....

you keep saying portage...thats gentoo linux, right?

yeah, its kinda not going to work that well unless its "symlinked" to jack i believe....yes lazyness must be overcome...newest wine version has some wineasio fixes that drumfix (one of the guys who have worked on wineasio) sent to the wine developers...its imperative. I personally use a "pay-for" version of wine, crossover office for all my wineasio stuff (except when i need to debug and figure out if i need a .dll etc.) but newest version of wine is so close to crossover its great :)

now energy xt 1.4 does not work as good as xt2. my educated guess is that the difference is in how the gui is made from each version. if something wasnt working in 1.4, i would try it in 2.02 and see if there is a difference....

xhip working here, lemme see whatsup with surge real quick.....

well surge 1.22 demo working here with regular wine (newest though) with no problems for me in XT2....have you tried running the vst in xt2 to see if there is a difference? works smoothly for me

oh, I guess I'll have to set up jack then. Or maybe asio4all works in wine? It's not surge in just xt1, crashes in both xt1 and xt2 when browsing presets in the gui. I'll try asio4all. What I would really like to do is give up windows alltogether, because all I really use it for is xt1, and the vsts in it. The only funky stuff I have seen with xt1 in wine is that second-level windows will always be on top. Also, when a plugin fails to load, it still shows up. I'm sure there are more problems, but, we'll see..... Perhaps virtualbox will be the answer but thats a whole nother can of worms.

EDIT: okay, I'm compiling jack, a newer version of wine (0.9.43), and my kernel with realtime capabilities. I'll let you know if I get wineasio working with xt1 very well.

Code: Select all

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libjack-0.100.0.so.0 /usr/lib/libjack.so.0
why is this necessary? does wineasio look for libjack.so.0?

on my system I do not have a libjack-0.100.0.so.0, only a libjack.so.0.0.23 ........ should I symlink it to libjack.so.0? I'll do it just for good measure.

EDIT: So I got it working pretty well now. I created that symlink, not sure how much it mattered. I'm also using the pre-compiled version of wineasio in the first thread. If you use gentoo and have any questions feel free to ask.

EDIT2: so now I just need to figure out how to get faster graphics on xt1, which is slower than hell.

EDIT3: Hey does anybody remember what that change is that needs to be made to the energyXT.ini file in for xt1 that is graphics related if you have a slow system? I cant seem to find it by searching.

EDIT4: Okay, I found it, under [layout], gui=GDI. a post from sanne! thanks man. Now Ive got xt1.4 working pretty smoothly under wine. It gives me hope! yes! Now to install Reaktor!

sweet,

thanks for all of the help by the way, this was a good guide. good enough to be understood even without using a debian based distro.

found a plug which causes crashes for me in 1.4: George Yhoung's W1 limiter... This is just when I twiddle the knobs.

EDIT: Oh, the actual problem is with anything I use as an insert. Thats going to be a problem!!!!

Post

is that a free plug i would like to try.....

im using inserts okay...maybe see if i can help find the problem...
i am me and i am free...k thx bai

Post

its free: actually its just some inserts. I still can reproduce it with http://www.yohng.com/w1limit.html
Its only when tweaking the gui. I just need to find a limiter that I like as much. For some reason I have a problem with finding buggy limiters. I used to use TLS limiter or something http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1727.html%2 ... %20Limiter
But I had a really wierd bug with it in energyXT a long time ago that I couldn't fix where output would slowly go silent over the entire mix.

EDIT: oh the funny thing is though just as an insert (namely the master insert), not in the comp view. Or maybe just when audio is running, im not really sure. In the comp view I can tweak knobs just fine.

oh ok....my be more of an ext2 issue, as i know of some issues with this and amplitube...

hopefully a more stable build will cure some of these woes :)

Post

also keep in mind all of my testing is ext1.4 in wine.

Does anyone with eXT2/wineasio/wine 0.9.46 combo,
has any luck running AlphaCM plugin?
AlphaFree is working fine, but AlphaCM does crash eXT2, on load.
It used to work on my old computer, but since i've got the new
one, it does not want to play with me.
