Architeuthis wrote:I made an important discovery. Maybe someone can help me out here. I found only one way to achieve a certain pad-synth effect and that is with the modulation parameter. You can find that on the ArtsAcoustic reverb and recently on the RaySpace reverb. I've been trying for so long to get this effect and I finally discovered that it's simple to achieve, but can only be achieved in one possible way. That is: with the modulation parameter on a reverb unit.

Architeuthis...a modulation parameter within the reverb itself is not strictly necessary to achieve the sound you are after.

Consider the processing on this acoustic guitar...

The skillful, strategic employment of a rather simple combination of pedestrian tools can very often achieve far superior, more original, and certainly more unique results.

My guess is that you may be able to get what you are after using tools you already have...hence sparing you both frustration and money.

kilroy; nice sound. Is that strictly spacial processing on the guitar, or are there other signals involved (eg. pads)?

Do tell, what pedestrian tools in what combination. Gorgeous melody as well as sound btw. :tu:

This is EXACTLY what im trying to achieve. Could you please explain your process?

I'm with you on Masterverb5. It doesn't get the attention that CSR and AA get, but man, that is a beautiful verb. Warm but never muddy. Great GUI. Low CPU. Fabulous on vocals.
It just knocks me out whenever I bring it up in the mix.
+ 1. I have bought the Behringer V-Verb, which is outstanding too, but i would never sell the Masterverb. Characterful sound and GREAT on drums (the plate).

Not to take from the mix but perhaps a LPF would fix that buzzing problem..

I've tried all the EQing and filtering options already. :(

Zircon...just spacial processing.

The blooming, pad like texture you hear is a direct result of the approach I took to get this sound.

Right then...see this thread...

mkastrup wrote:Perhaps a chorus could be inserted before the signal going into the reverb you use. Even Delays can be used for producing the modulation effect.
though an old trick (i did this with hardware all the time back in the days), this is by far not the same:

1. the chorus just processes the input of the reverb, thus the reverbtail itself is not afected, as soon as the input drops ...
- the modulation on a good reverb is modulating the delays in the tail, therefore it's optimized to work perfectly with the delay-structure, plus it's not depending on modulated inputsignals, thus it does that "moving" on the _tail_, even if there is _no_ iputsignalpresent anymore, which sounds much more natural ...
mkastrup wrote:I prefer Variverb over CSR and use it for vocals, drums, percussion and shorter rooms/halls.
i see that the same .... variverb is just great, aar and variverb compliment each other perfectly ... there's no other need than those 2 reverbs ...
imo ...

I agree with brok, using a chorus (I use just vibrato) is not the same, although you can get excellent results with that technique too.
Architeuthis, try OmniVerb and AriesVerb. Both have that modulation thing. With OmniVerb you can control frequency and depth. AriesVerb has an additional "spr" parameter that seems to control the "aging". [edit: this is inaccurate, "spr" spreads the phase difference of the modulations. And thanks to Christian for the great documentation .]
Another one is KarmaFX Reverb, it's a little dangerous because the effect is pretty exaggerated and could be annoying (only on/off options) but with some material it may work (if you change the verb type you get different "flavors", but most of them are useless in my opinion).
