Me and my pal got this one:

It's $800.

Everybody likes it because it has all fou knee levers, but as I said, you're good with 2 and 3 pedals.

Actually, you're pretty much good with one knee lever and the 3 foot pedals. I have never used the second knee lever.

There are a few on ebay right now. I'm thinking you can score the carter starter for maybe $600 on there, but keep an eye out.

I would not suggest going for any of the weird/deluxe models. If you want an opinion on one, ask me.

I have plenty of opinions. :D

I think that's gotta be on my list of must-haves. Part of the reason I haven't spent time on making the lap steel sound pedal-steel-ish is the "ish" part. If I want pedal steel, I should just man up and get one. First, new apartment or house. Then pedal steel. :)

The other thing to remember ease-of-use-wise, is that while there are 10 strings, you only use 4 of them most of the time.

I have this album. I'ts all pedal steel performed in ambient/instrumental type pieces. Really nice stuff, imo:

I know it's a pedal steel forum, but lap steel crept in. Here is an early version of my piece "DADGAD" named after the tuning (Bass to treble) and played lapstyle on a Dobro with a bullet style slide. Partial bars with some open treble strings work well on positions 2 and 4.

I have cooked this piece a lot since then, and will have a hotter version up soon.
