Technically, Receptor is not running VSTs under Linux. It's running them under WINE (a Windows emulator) under Linux. There is a pretty big difference, and I don't just mean semantically ;-)

I've used this new application after reading your post. It worked for East West Silver Strings. It took me quite a while to get through the instructions for the first time, but it eventually worked. It got tripped up with one other and I haven't figured that out yet. It's like..."take the 15 to the 10 to the 5 to the 57 N. to the LA freeway, then do a u-turn and trace backwards, then take the 215 south to the 78 to the 101, head north on the 101 to the 5 north and get off on the Ventura freeway...." You get the point.

But at least there is a way.

I guess that beauty is in the ear of the beholder. As for mine, I feel like I got ripped off.

Curois wrote:There are many issues I have with Receptor (not being able to install Komplete despite the available Service Center app is one of the) but I think we can agree on one thing here: The receptor never ever sounds any less than the majority of soundcards out there. I even had the subjective notion that in a lot of cases it sounds BETTER. In any case it does in the live situation in which I am using it.
And believe me, we are highly motivated to create the situation where you can install Komplete yourself, and as we have said elsewhere, fully intend to release the tools that allow you to do so in the future. Thanks for your patience...

I was able to use the new authorization application for the NI Center. That has helped. I will be working with my setup to see if the audio can improve in my setup. When will a userinstallable app. be available for Komplete 3?

not really....i run (windows) vsts in linux...using wine.........so does receptor...whats the big difference you speak about? unless you misunderstood me, thinking i meant native linux vst's ; i didnt necessarily mean that, just attention that linux can be used with vst both native and to an extent windows plug using techniques like the one i wrote about here...

im very interested in running vst's in wine under linux way before i made that post ;) i just would like the receptor guys to talk about that fact more maybe gather some more interest in getting different plugs to work (even if it IS via wine)
i am me and i am free...k thx bai

I would suggest that the Receptor is more of a road instrument rather than for recording."

I use My Receptor as a Uniwire EFX rack inside Protools using the FXpansion VST-to-RTAS wrapper in the studio!.
I use it as MY SECRET weapon for sound design since it allows me to layers efx better the VBOX inside PEAK and WAVELAB ever can.
I also have it running REAKTOR-5 instead of having it run on my pc or mac....and its pretty damm good.
so..... everyones opionion is different, I dont do live gigs so I cant feel what you feel.
studio wise...lovely.
BUT! I suggest getting RAM to feel its power...I still have a ver. B and its still dope.

i've just bought one and it's arriving tomorrow. have been researching it for weeks, and have come to the conclusion that this will be perfect for me. receptor will be a HUGE part of my live rig which will consist of:

-laptop
-motu 828 mkII firewire interface
-m-audio and behringer midicontroller
-receptor komplete inside.

as you can see my receptor is more then half of the cost of the whole rig, so i'm pretty confident that this will do what i want, and i know it's limitations. you can find out exactly what is good and bad about it on this forum, and i do advise everyone who is thinking of buying one to research it thoroughly, especially those who are used to very specific plugins. you should approach it like; i'll be happy with every new one, not i'll be pissed off about every one thats not compatible. I'm coming from working with reason almost exclusively so i don't really have a big lot of 'favourite' plugins. it's just a big sound module with growing possibilities, and the option to put a big monitor screen on top; never edit synth parameters on tiny LCD displays anymore, hurray!

looking forward to it !!! :D
