well, here we go.. I never had the problem before but it seems I'm falling a victim of it now too. Can't play most of my projects as Logic crashes after a few seconds. Bloody annoying.. nothing has changed on my system.

Any tips anyone?

I've posted this on the Apple forums as well, in case some smartass thinks about jumping in with a great idea :hihi:

it's probably disk problems (error says 'system overload or disk too slow')
I'm using a firewire external drive but it's working just fine and is definitely not in sleep mode or anything

I have an external fw drive and the same issue, but it's either when starting the first project after launch or if I'm deleting audio and then recording quickly after. I haven't looked into why this is so I'd be interested in what you might find. It's annoying and stupid. Pressing enter and then space bar or * takes what? Half a second? and it always works for me. Seems like a design flaw to me, but what do I know.

Are you using a FireWire interface on the same FireWire card as the hard drive?

I am.

I went to Guitar center and they had a brand new imac running 8. It only had 1GB of RAM, but it gave this error every couple of minutes with only 8-10 tracks running and light effects.

I know the RAM makes a huge difference, but this seemed weak for even 1GB.

I'm using an iMac (2gig ram).. drive and interface are on different ports so I guess they're on different cards as well (the iMac has two FW ports). I can't imagine those two ports actually being the same FW interface.

I never used to have this problem with L7

I always used to have it with Sampletank, I know that so that's why I never use it in Logic. This project starts with one track with StylusRMX on it. Stylus seems to behave nicely in other projects though (and has never given me any problems before either)

can you try using the internal audio interface just to see what happens?

I bet the Firewire ports are on the same interface. It is odd it never happened in L7 but now does in L8.

OT: Man I wish I could try L8 you are a lucky bastard ;)

if these problems persists I might just go Cubase or Reaper and I'll have a copy for sale :D
not yet likely though

same problem with buildin btw

Hmmmm. Is the FireWire drive bus powered? If so, does it have a DC adapter you can hook up?

Dang, I just sold my Reaper and would have gladly traded it to you for your Logic :D

if it worked in L7 they need to get it to work again in L8. That's just plain stupid. I've been testing Cubase this weekend and as it stands I do not want to switch

Hmmm, the only time so far i've had that message is on the first play when I load a project up. After that everything runs smoothly, yet to max it out! (using a 2.33 duel core Macbook Pro, think it has 2gbs of RAM!)
