Deleting Samples

Hello;
I just bought a Receptor and have been taking stuff off I don't want. The manual says that the samples directory is free to modify but when I tried to delete samples in the soundfont subdirectory it won't let me do it. All the files in Samples seem to be read-only. Is this correct? Why does the manual say the directory is free to modify?
