I logged in today and spent the next 20 minutes making a greasemonkey script to make it less horrible. Ugo's suggestion actually looks pretty good.

Is it just me, or did I just notice all kinds of little changes as I was reading the past couple of pages?
The conservatism of forum-goers is interesting (I'm not referring to any specific complaints, just the older == better type replies I see). Similar hell broke loose when the Ubuntu forums went through a major overhaul. Now, all is quiet.

+4 for Ugo's suggestion.
Don't like the present format. Too narrow.

Might not be everyones cup of tea. I pretty much cut out all the fat. Put this filter in adblock along with the script.
script
*edit: you need firefox with the greasemonkey extension and the adblock or adblock plus extension.

That's exactly what I reckon Ben will think, but that doesn't change the fact that an overwhelming majority aren't comfortable. It's a gross generalisation, too, but I'm sure you realise that. No-one's really complaining about every single change, but rather the most significant, which is the layout and proportion of the main components.tetraplan wrote:The conservatism of forum-goers is interesting (I'm not referring to any specific complaints, just the older == better type replies I see). Listen to your users, Ben - they're what makes your website, after all.

The question is are they quiet because they've grown to feel OK with their new layout, or are they quiet because they still dislike it but have given up on vocally opposing it?tetraplan wrote:Similar hell broke loose when the Ubuntu forums went through a major overhaul. Now, all is quiet.
If KvR stays this way, I'm not going to be an ass and post "Change it back!" in Site Stuff every day until I get banned, but I certainly hope my silence on the subject isn't interpreted as
"Oh, I guess he doesn't have that much of a problem with it anymore."

it's not conservatism; observe:tetraplan wrote:Is it just me, or did I just notice all kinds of little changes as I was reading the past couple of pages?

Got to say I like the Old Forum Layout better. With the New one everything is out of place and shit, which makes it a lot harder to navigate through it.

doesn't work well with my 1600x1200 resolution. some of the modules overlap with others. it's the same with my comcast homepage though. i guess that resolution is not a popular one.

The new look has utterly ruined KVR, enough to stop coming here.
Firstly where is the plugin selector, the most important part of KVR. Secondly who the hell designed this new look, they either have bad vision or are still working on a 14-inch monitor.
The supposed sleek-new look is nothing but a step backward in user comfort.
Is KVR trying to compete with some other site?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
A smart thing of the website owner would to implement both the old and the new looks, and make it a choosable option in the users profile. I bet that 95% of people would choose the old look.
Uggh, seriously... I can't stand the new look of KVR, it looks like some cheap narrow little site. These days when monitor size is increasing, webpages are supposed to take advantage of this not the other way around.
The narrow look is so ebay, so commercial.
