Surge doesn't use samples... It uses wavetable synthesis (sweepable wavetables, like the PPG kind), FM, and VA synthesis...

I just had a play round with this thing. I am so using this as my drum sampler from now on, as well as a host for my soundfonts!
Damn damn damn damn!!

One thing I like a lot with sc1/sc2 is just to use the onboard oscillators in the filter section to do some synth sounds. I load a silent wavefile that I loop.

There is xfade in SC2.

Claes already mentioned that there's going to be a donate-link at the Vemberaudio page, but I think what would really benefit Shortcircuit would be the 'pay what you want'-model. I rarely donate to freeware developers because I never remember to do it (and sometimes it's a real hassle) but when I have to consider it for a second when making the download, the chances that it will be a non-zero donation are really high. If it was a slick and effortless system (and didn't require, say, a paypal account), I'm sure Vemberaudio would get a much bigger cash flow from Shortcircuits that with just a donate-button.
After all, I did pay £2 for the Radiohead (and would have paid more if the bitrate was higher and/or I didn't consider it mostly a cheap marketing gimmick and an extra way of milking their fans) - if Shortcircuit was developed further I'm sure I'd pay a substantial price for it even if I could choose 0€. (Right now its usefulness is frustratingly limited to me as a Kontakt 3 owner, but SC2 wouldn't need much to fill in Kontakts gaps very nicely.) If Shortcircuit had the possibility to sample and do FM I'd certainly pay >50€ for it.
Basically I'm just thinking of ways to keep Shortcircuit alive because it would be a big shame if the development stopped...

Unfortunately I found SC1 was causing SFZ files to end very abruptly - noticeably different from rgc's sfz player.jens wrote:tomg wrote: Pity that there's no SFZ or SF2 import

It was unbelievable cool, that in SC1 you could just load up one WAV and have it loop perfectly
