midiPads update:

- special "hexagons" preset included (not finished, just a demonstration).
- by default, releasing the mouse anywhere will stop any hanging notes. the old behavior is available by turning off this setting in the menu.
- removed pad tooltips

Oh gosh, hate to show off my ignorence like this but...how do I get midipads to learn the keyboard key I press then let me change that output to another note? I thought that Learn Trigger would do this and then I could change it via the Y output.

Post

the mouse "drag&play" mode is not implemented yet, right?

regarding the hexagons preset: one of the behaviours of the Axis-controller is that you can play triads with one finger! you could try to implement this option\feature that enlarges the trigger area of the pads or hexagons and lets you play composite chords with a sngle click\touch!!!!

the enlerged trigger area could be enlighted with colored lines...

I'm having some success, but is it possible that MIDI Thru is going thru whether or not that option is checked? Please bear with me. midiMonitor shows that this may be the case.

Post

it seems to be working right for me. the trigger note doesn't go through even if midi thru is on...

i think i know what the problem could be. when triggering, it might use all 64 pads even if they aren't all showing. i don't have the code with me right now to check, but this will be easy to fix if it's the case. i meant to make it iterate through only the visible pads whenever possible, but i might have missed something.

Hmmmm, this is odd. I've been trying to work through it and made a small discovery. If I select the new preset "hexagons", change the preset to no MIDI through and allow MIDI trigger, I am then able to change the Y value and get only that note to play. If I try this with a "default" preset I get two notes to play. Also curious is the behavior of the note off option, it also acts like it is refusing to forget it's previous setting just like the MIDI through option.

I went through this process several times to verify.

if you have all 64 pads showing, you should be able to see what's going on. when you change a trigger note for one pad, it might also be set to trigger a different pad, which would normally not be showing.

by default, the trigger note is the same as the sent note, so it might seem like it's sending the original note through.

about the "send off value" option, it might be kind of weird since i made it a per-pad setting. the item in the main menu will be checked only if all the pads have it checked. is that what you're talking about?

This is why I don't mind so much looking like a goof ball, if I end up learning something. When I have all pads showing it becomes obvious what is going on. You are absolutely correct, thank you very much for the assistance.

i fixed the triggering of invisible pads, and i made the trigger note default to 0. also fixed some other minor bugs (aftertouch was broken, but probably no one uses that).

Thank you! :)

The file midiPads20071106a.zip was stolen by the robots of doom! I tried the filename without the "a" at the end and it was there. Would that be the one?

no, that was the one from this morning. i must have uploaded it to the wrong place.

anyway, now i uploaded it for real, with another addition: shift-ctrl-click or shift-middle-click will learn the trigger note, and alt-ctrl- or alt-middle-click will learn the x-cc.
