Hi,
I have a bunch of sample libraries that I want to all put on receptor and use uniwire to plug into my computer.
I have East West symphony of voices, RA, orch gold
also BFD.
I want to be able to plug these into any computer I want. for instance my laptop, or my desktop, or a computer down at the studio to make a track with.
Does Uniwire allow this? Is the license of all the above plugs tied to the receptor so I can use it on any computer that has uniwire installed with no problems?
Thanks,
dw

Hi Dusted (good to see you in this forum),
This is what I do. I have 2 receptors, one which I predominantly use for gigging (with analog emulations, and some Romplers), and a studio unit which stays racked at home, and uniwired into my DAW. On that, I have EWQLSO plat, RA, Colossus, BFD, EWQL SOV, as well as Kontakt with a number of Scarbee, Garritan, Prominy, and Bella D Libraries.
Most of these are NI based libs, which means I can have an instance here and an instance on my DAW. It's a good way to offload some of the libraries.
That said, in reality, I have never used more than 5 or 6 channels over uniwire at a time. Actually, I mostly monitor over audio, and avoid Uniwire until I am close to freezing the audio on the DAW. Latencies are OK over Uniwire, but not the greatest. I've heard of others just using the optical port to avoid latencies, but this is limiting in the number of channels you can stream.
For me personally, I find some logic to partitioning certain chores on DAW vs. Receptor.
Hope this helps, Regards,
Kevin L

thanks for the reply,
but I still have the nagging question.
What I really want to be able to do is to let others play my sample based libraries as if I let them borrow my hardware synth.
Like say my friend who ones a studio is working on a track where he needs some choirs.
at this point he can call me up, send me the midi and I can render.
I would like to just be able to lend him my receptor and he can do it all himself.
Is this possible?
thanks,
dw

Hmm - That's another interesting question.
From How I interpret the various Licenses (like NIs and EWs) - you can't have a friend 'borrow' your receptor. If your friend were to release a song with source material that came from a borrowed Receptor (and was registered to you), this would be violating the terms of your various software licenses. Your friend would be liable for infringement, and you might be as well. This is quite a different problem than if your friend were to borrow your Motif synthesizer (or something like that).
On the other hand, if you were contracted to perform on a recording, using your own libraries, you would be within your rights on the license.
So I guess the answer depends on the arrangement you are making with your friend, and it is more a question of the software licenses that apply (rather than the Receptor that might be hosting the software).
I guess this would be analogous to your friend borrowing your DAW that hosts software for the same purpose.

Well I just want to know if it is technically possible.
This is a situation that might turn up.
My friend has singer with crappy drums. We work out a new midi track, but I want to to use sounds using BFD that is loaded on to my Receptor.
I just want to know if I can load uniwire on his machine and trigger my BFD through my receptor.
Or is uniwire and the receptor somehow locked to an individual computer.

Uniwire and Receptor are in no way locked to a computer. What you are suggesting is 100% technically feasible.dusted william wrote:Well I just want to know if it is technically possible.
