Can't Copy File From Mac to Receptor Hard Drive

When trying to copy a newly downloaded velocity curve patch (.nkp file) from my Mac to the appropriate Kontakt 2 folder on my Receptor hard drive I get a message that says that I do not have permission to copy. This is the case when trying to copy this file to any Recptor folder. It does seem to copy to the Receptor drive (not in any of the folders) as a stand alone file however, but still won't allow me to move it to any Receptor folder from there. I've checked the file, it's not locked and it is read and write. I've tried placing the file in Unsupported (it's not recognized there) and Drop Installers Here (install fails). I thought that I had read something about this on this forum, but couldn't find anything with a search. Any ideas?
Thanks-

Hi Tom,

Usually, Muse copy-protects the directories for plugs that are installed via .mrpk install files. This prevents any accidental deletion of prog files.

So - if you *Really* wish to wirte a file in this directory, one option is to get the root password for your receptor, and then copy this file to the Kontakt folder (as root, with full permissions).

You can find instructions how to do this from Ogg's page here.

I don't know if there is a way within Kontakt to tell kontakt to look for the .nkp file in a different directory - if there is, that would be another possibility.

Thanks Kevin - I thought that might be the case. I'm not sure I want to get that "deep" programing wise - though it's always fun to try/learn something new. I've glanced at Ogg's instructions before, I'll take a closer look. Thanks again -

Hi Tom,

I just wanted to add a few pros & cons:

Pro: it is not too hard to get the privleges to override protections for this kind of thing.

Con: If you are not careful, you could inadvertantly change some settings needed to boot/configure Receptor, and it would be very difficult to debug.

Con: if you don't absolutely need to change the velocity curve, this mod would be putting your receptor at risk.

q: would it be possible to simply change the velocity curve from the Receptor single on the channel Kontakt is assigned to (instead of on Kontakt itself)?

Also, as rumors fly about OS 2.0, this kind of thing should be easier to handle in the near future.

Kevin,
I think I'll probably just wait and see what 2.0 brings, as this was certainly not a "pressing" need. The file was created to supposedly improve the dynamic response of the Sample Tek pianos within Kontakt (smooth out - or create a more linear dynamic response using the velocity curve to control the amplifier section). I thought it would be interesting to try, as Black Grand seems mildly "jumpy" to me in its playability - if that makes any sense. There are a couple of stock presets (curves) available in Kontakt already, I think I'll play around with those a bit. I can't "tank" my Receptor doing that, and I need it for some December gigs. I play Ivory most of the time anyway, but I like a break from those pianos occasionally as well.

I do very much appreciate the suggestions - thanks
