Jo, it's the opposite problem -- I want to be playing outside the period I want to over-punch.
If I'm trying to get a drum fill to sound just right, it's far, far easier to play say a whole 32-bar phrase, to get into the swing of the track and then have the punch in/out manage the section I'm trying to overwrite, than have to worry about coming in at exactly the right time. (I don't want to risk all 32 bars just for a lousy 2 bar fill.)
Beta D - select target when no clip selected?

Actually, I'm with you on not messing too much with conceptual stuff right now. It's okay how it is for me (Player / Sequence panel, this is). I was indeed just exploring alternative approaches.muzycian wrote:At this point, i disagree.
I think it's good that the last focussed target keeps being the focussed target even if you unselect all parts.

Maybe it's also because i'm into finalizing MU.LAB towards PreRelease and Release, and don't want to experiment with conceptual changes at this point.
Last but not least: i don't trash your suggestions (thanks!), will think about them again over longer time.

Indeed, i was talking MIDI.DaveL60 wrote:Jo: I understand your scenario, but
1) It sounds MIDI focused (maybe just what you wrote) -- do things work the same way with audio? For me, at least, punch-in has much more to do with audio parts than MIDI sequences.
Audio punch in/out is not yet supported.
Newbies may not be confused because they don't know 'the traditional way'.2) Not to sound hidebound by tradition, but this is distinctly a different interpretation of "punch-in" from how that term is used in most other contexts, so for some users that might be confusing.
Traditional oriented users may be, but most of the time, these users are stuck to their traditional DAW anyway, so in fact that doesn't create a problem.
Don't mean to ignore the traditional way, just not yet convinced about it in this context. I only want to support tradition when it's really worth it.
But i'll think more on this, also on both audio & midi punching.
Though it won't be for 1.0.
Ah, yes, now i see what you mean. Yes, got your point now.I'd have to play with it to be sure, but your description still doesn't sound, so me, like it fits well with the "start playing before the punch-in point to get into the flow" way of doing punch-ins, particularly for audio.
But the current punch method (for midi recs) will be it for now.
Lateron the punch in/out functionality may be further developed.

May be continued lateron...
