i didn't test it up to now, but no doubt about it, it will be great, as everything you do ... but ... well, lets say it like this:
imo _you_ are the _last_ one who needs to switch from synthedit ... :)

Is Mr Ray mk2 meant to be a replacement for Mr Ray 73mk1 or an emulation of a different model Rhodes piano?

Hard to tell...

The plugin itself should be a replacement or better an "update" of MrRay73 mk1, but since all Rhodes pianos are all diffedent, we can also say that mk2 is a different model. The sound is different, that's the point.
I named it "mk2" just to find a funkier way to say "version 2", but it still is modeled after a Mark I.

Actually, there's no big difference between a Mark I and a Mark II, at least for what concerns the later Mk Is and the earlier Mk IIs, they're practically identical except for little cosmetic details (the lid top and the namerail).

For my simulations I consider these two models, sold between the 1974 and the 1983 (mostly "the CBS period"). To be more precise, MrRay73 mk2 is modeled after my Mk I from 1977.

You will never find two Rhodes pianos which sound identical, and if you find one that sounds "perfect", that's not a good Rhodes.

I accept your advice about the 'piano age' feature, and if my head doesn't blow up, I'll try to make something tonight :D

Just another little example on how hard is dealing with simulations: a while back a guy reported me a problem with VB3, he said "when I hold a chord on high notes and then I play some low notes, the high notes' volume drops down".

If you have ever sat at a real Hammond you'd know that this is exactly how the Leslie behaves, especially at a high volume. Also, this is normal for many other instruments and amplifying systems out there.

BUT, if the guy would have listened to a real Hammond doing that, he would have done like this smiley :o and would have said "wow, what a nice effect!"... Instead, when you know that a simulation is not real, and everything it does is wanted by its creator, you always tend to think "this is a mistake"...

It's hard to explain such concepts in english for me, I hope this was clear enough.

Ok, back to the code now
Excellent - clear as a bell!

Will there be an upgrade price for Mk1 registered users?

Post

I'm curious as to what the price will be as well, but Guido is usually very fair. As for brok's comment, I agree completely, but that just adds to my respect for Guido's motivation in doing so :)

I'd love to see a Mac version (in Audio Units format).

All sharps/flats after middle C seem to have a bit of a 'muted' bell sound only, rather than the body tone with it. (it still exists on the WHITE notes though)

black keys sound 'dead' for the upper 3 octaves

Oh... this is how real Rhodeses are... ehem... I mean... broken Rhodeses...

Guido,

Any chance that you'd ever do a Dyno-My-Piano version of Mr. Ray?

:dog:

Otherwise, it's sounding snazzy. :D

There's a loud and unpleasant velocity-unsensitive short click on key press and release. I never heard that click on Rhodes records, as well as in other emulations and sample libraries. The click disappears only when I set Metal noise knob to exactly zero. I also get the same clicks when using aftertouch - it seems each aftertouch MIDI message causes such click, so when I push a key down, I hear really unpleasant crackle.
I use Tracktion 3 as my host.

Post

Have you also tested with some other host?

I hear no clicks like you are describing... no one does... must be something Tracktion-related.
