Hi, there,

I have both SS and ST but would like to consolidate. Is it possible to use SS Sounds in ST so that I could use ST as the single interface for both?

If so, would there be any limitations to using them in ST?

Thanks so much ,

That's how I do it. I just moved the sample directory over so it would be another subdirectory off the ST samples root, and bingo. It's a lot to scroll through but that's a cost I'm willing to pay.

Only limitation I can think of is that if you save a patch, it'll be usable only in ST, not in SS. Not much of a limitation really but that's all I could come up with.

Cool.

It's better efficiency-wise, I think, to scroll through a lot rather than loading multiple gui's and not being as good as you can be in one.

I'm actually thinking about converting other applicable libs to ST just to get rid of the overhead of loading and learning them, too.

Thank you very much,

I'm no authority, so check back to see whether someone who knows the software and samples better than I might have other ideas. Good luck!

Besides the convenience of having both sound sets in one GUI, you have the added benefit of being able to use sounds from either set to create your own combinations.

As far as I can tell, the only disadvantage is that ST25 will take slightly longer to open and to _Relist_ the library, as it is that much bigger.

But as everyone has said you get all the sounds in one place and you can mix and match them to your heart's content, and ST25 has more comprehensive features that SS2.1

PS Don't forget to move/copy your SS2 combi presets so that ST25 can see them.
e.g. from C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\Sonik Synth 2\Presets
to C:\Program Files\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 2.5\Presets\SS2.

D'oh, I noticed that early on. Ought to have remembered. A minor annoyance merely but it's there.

Okay,

I guess I was concerned at any sort of synth-manipulation things that the SS interface might have that ST lacks.

If it's not going to do anything LESS, then it's almost a no brainer. I love the blue SS interface, though...too bad ST isn't skinnable (or at least colorable)... :)

Post

Not skinnable but you can change the color. See those three tiny knobs at the right edge of the big display panel? "COL LUM BRT" Give 'em a tweak.

Cool!

Thanks, Meffy!

*bow* Pleased to be able to help. Now you can make the SS GUI look... well, angelic and light, if you like.

There are some corners where annoying gradients are too dark and obscure text, and are not affected by colour...nice for video games, but hey...guess what?

Yeah so many combinations possible
1800 sounds in ST2.5 and 5600 sounds in SS2 that makes 7400!
So the number of possibilities of 2 patches combined to 1 sound is:
(7400 * 7399) / 2 = 27376300

You can tell ST under preferences not to relist every time you open it.
It will open faster then.
And if you need to relist after a new made sound there is a button to the right for relist(ing).
