Actually it might be there sooner than expected 8)

Great! Looking forward to it!

Urs,

Any chance of updating this now that Z2.2 has been released? I can't be the only one that's interested in the future of u-he products. :D

It's embarrassing... I needed a little break after Zebra 2.2 and got hooked by the idea of a modular system along the lines of the once beloved Roland 100M... thus I'm now playing with a Doepfer frame that contains a couple of modules from Cwejman, Analogue Systems, Livewire and Doepfer. Around that I'm toying with the idea of a softsynth that is as flexible and as good sounding.

Oh. My employee is still working on that phat filter algorithm for Filterscape.

I have to go now for wedding preparations. This takes up a lot of time, too.

Oh... MFM2... yep... soon!

;) Urs

Oh man, that is a dangerous road finance wise! So much wonderful, amazing, beautiful, expensive stuff. I'm friends with Mike who makes all the LiveWire stuff (in fact I've done some assembly for him) and it's all I can do to keep myself from spiraling into out of control debt from modular purchases. Check out the Harvestman modules if you get a chance...

I wonder how many of the teaming millions are trying as hard as I am to be patient?!?

A drum machine?

Is there anyway$$$we can get you to just stop everything else, and focus on this?

A modular drum machine would be even better. Then I don't need to buy a DSI BoomChik.

Can you imagine an Urs drum machine? I'm having trouble.

Let us know when you're ready for insane feature requests.

Interesting. What's the biggest challenge in achieving the same sound quality digitally?

Keep bugging him about it. I can only do so much on my own. :)

It's this:

A modular system doesn't make a difference between control signals (ADSR, LFO, Lag, MIDI) and audio signals (VCO, VCF, VCA, Ringmod). Hence a software modular system has to be treated like a single latency-free module. You must be able to send an osc through a filter to fm the very same osc.

I have one going:

- 3 vco/lfo with special features (Sync, PM, PWM)
- 3 vcf
- 1 dedicate lfo
- 4 multiples/vca (modmatrix, signal mixer)
- 2 lag generators
- 2 adsr envelopes
- 2 pan/vca (output)
- 1 sample&hold (also samplerate decimator/bit quatizer)

+ pink/white noise, midi, etc.

Knobcount: 38 (!!!)

Absolutely easy to use for a modular system. Great sounding. 12% per voice on a 3 GHz cpu  (room for optimization though)

It's the best concept I've ever had. It's not for the audience of Zebra and vice versa. It's for lovers of System 100M, A100, and especially:

http://www.cwejman.net/cwejman.net/s1mk2.htm

That's what it is about. And... a concept of use that makes true modularity even more easy than having the real deal... f**k, it ain't easy to keep overview with all those patch cords!!!

It'll probably take a year until we can show it.

Sounds brilliant. Can't wait. Please post mp3s when you feel inclined.

I would pay $$$ for a software modular with the ergonomic sophistication of a Clavia G2 and the sound quality of Vaz modular (or even better).

Another next big thing. We got a great concept here. Sounds great on paper and will be a bliss once it's out there. But we just got sidetracked by the B-device (aka modular system).

Maybe there's a point in having them spin off of each.

;) Urs

P.S.: The monthly magware drum machine for Sound & Recording mag may be, uhm, too simple, but still... there's a lot of experience...

What do you think the commercial market for a fullblown modular is? I'd love to see something like this myself but I imagine a lot of people would be intimidated by it.
