Organizing Zebra 2.2 Patches

Hi
I did the 2.2 upgrade and love it so far. However, and I admit this is a small niggle, when I copied all of my other patches including the oldskool and Transmission patches, I now have lost that purdy 1-9 organization. Is there a way to have subfolders or better organizaton of my old patches?
Thanks for the update. Now if you could only make the fonts bigger for old people with weaker eyes, things would be perfect.

Yep, I do it with all my presets. All you have to do is make your own folders in the base preset directory. You can't do this within Z2, you need to make the folders with the OS tools. Just organize the files how you want. I put all the new presets in Factory Presets 2.2/ off the top level directory.
The directories vary from Windows to Mac.
Windows is C:\program files\u-he\Presets\Zebra2\
Mac is either [MacHD]/Library/Audio/Presets/u-he/Zebra2/ or /Users/[your username]/Library/Audio/Presets/u-he/Zebra2/
Have fun!

Very cool... the manual should be updated to reflect this new change since this page says this is not possible:Urs wrote: Pssst... right-click in the list of preset folders...

One question about presets while we are on the topic:
Why does Zebra create folders or new patches in the Root Library instead of the User Library?
Shouldn't this be the other way around?
Thanks!

I'm thinking about this...atom-x wrote:One question about presets while we are on the topic:

Thing is, the Apple Installer can only "see" the local (root) stuff. It's not aware of user folders. Thus installations based on installers can only go there, orphaning the user directory in a way...
Unfortunately I have had to revert Mac installations to installer based processes because the whole logic of the library layout was too confusing... hence my preferred location now is local/root, as long as a plug has permission to save something in there.
D'oh... yeah... it's basically an installer weirdness that keeps me off of the user area...

Ok gotcha. Thank you for the explanation, Urs. I figured it must be something weird with the way things were set up, from an OS point-of-view.Urs wrote:it's basically an installer weirdness that keeps me off of the user area...
I primarily use Zebra from within Logic Pro, and like to keep my custom patches separate from the factory ones, but in my user Library, so that they get backed up along with all other customized content. Here's a tip on how I do this in Logic:
Save the patch from Logic's patch plugin menu, instead of from Zebra's GUI. This will allow you to save the patch in your User Library (~/Library/Audio/Presets/u-he/Zebra2/) in the aupreset format. Later, if you want to save the patch in the Zebra Native format for sharing, you can just recall the patch, and save it from Zebra's GUI.
The only real drawback to this is that custom patches don't show up in the Zebra patch list GUI.
I would much rather use the Zebra native format for all patch saves. BUT I really need to keep the custom patches stored in my profile. I've tested out using aliases as a possible solution, but Zebra seems to ignore all aliases inside its patch directories.
SO... this leads to a "wish" of mine for a Zebra enhancement:
If Zebra could recognize & follow aliases or hard links within the local/root library, these problems would be solved for me. I could just simply create an alias to my user patch directory inside the local/root... and everything would act as expected in the Zebra GUI.
Thanks for listening and for your response, Urs. Your software is truly a breed apart from the rest. Amazing stuff.
All the best,

Hehehe - Zebra's preset management *does* recognize .aupreset! (If you switch PatchFormat to "native" it'll also save .aupreset) - you probably just have to update the patch list by clicking on the directory again...
You could also just browse to the User location in the Presetmanager and save from there... Zebra always saves patches into the folder that's selected in the foilder list...
Aliases and other links seem to be complicated to follow. My handling of files has been developed externally so I'm not sure what, if and how.
Later,
Urs
