EDIT JAN 7, 2008: Gladiator 1.1 works on Receptor! details here:

I had high hopes for this one, since Firebird works on Receptor. Looking back at my notes, though I believe Firebird+ 1.7.2 was the last version that works, something after that one broke receptor compatibility.

Gladiator is a MONSTER of a good synth! Very flexible. Lot's of usable stuff.

I installed it first via standard "unsupported" method, copying over an entire directory which contained the DLL, license files, and a gladiator_data subdir. It installs. It loads. It plays.

Launch the GUI and Receptor goes "poof". instant reset, with nothing useful in the log, just the standard:

Dec 12 21:24:40 hybernation rm-host: wine: Unhandled exception (thread 0009), starting debugger...
Dec 12 21:24:40 hybernation rm-host: wine client error:9: write: Bad file descriptor
Dec 12 21:24:40 hybernation rm-host: wine client error:9: write: Bad file descriptor
Dec 12 21:24:41 hybernation start-receptor: rm-host session ended

Next I uninstalled this and tried running the installer via wine. Installed fine this way too, but the results were exactly the same as before.

It appears that something about the graphics (which are exceedly nice) just won't run on Receptor.

I wish there was a way to put receptor/wine in a more "verbose" logging mode, so that perhaps some things could be written to the log that might help the devs know what the incompatibility is.

Oh well. If you are a synth junkie like me, I suggest you buy Gladiator anyway ;-)

Once I figure out how to convert the other "banks" in gladiator to FXB, I will probably use it anyway, just without the nice GUI.
