The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Concerning the thread topic, I could ask the same of ReNoise. Pointless, though...if people are unhappy with their host, they'll look somewhere else. If they find Reaper or ReNoise or xxx to be more akin to what they want to use, by God, I think they might actually buy it.

Both, actually.

Mostly because I can work so fast in Sonar and it does everything I need and then some, so why change?

On top of which I've got Project 5 for it's groove matrix & arp; and now I'm learning XT2 and love the modular nature of that.

I did try Reaper once a few months ago. I wanted to do some ReWire routing thing that was giving me a pain in the ass in Sonar6 - "Hey, Reapers got very advanced routing, right? I'll try that." Well, it may be advanced, but it wasn't intuitive, and ultimately, no more flexible than Sonar. Then it crashed to blue on launch a few times.

Plus, yes, it's really clunky looking.

And Reaper's users don't help any. Nor does Justin, frankly. I'm not going to go into here because it's just my personal reaction and I'm not trying to start any flames. Suffice to say, whenever they pop up in a thread proselytizing about their software I tend to tune them out. Just when the Cubase v. Sonar v. Logic wars were beginning to lose their steam, here comes Reaper to fire up a whole new round of DAW pissing matches.

That said, hey, more power to Reaper. I hope that it continues to give a lot of people access to a well-spec'd DAW and that the users remain happy and contented.

That's true.. But I found myself speaking for KVR members on the Reaper forum, with no authority. I knew that even though I was probably right, I was a little out of line. KVR members can and do speak quite well for themselves most of the time.

Who knows? Exposure for a product is usually a good thing. Somebody may look for the first time or be converted. Maybe a similar XT2 thread would be a good idea. :hihi:

I'm fed up with this mythology about "Reaper users" again and again - frankly it's just insulting nonsense. There are constructive people that use Reaper and a few trolls like there are constructive people and a few trolls who use FL or Cubase etc - same as anything, you get stupid kids and sensible adults using it at the same time. There is nothing different per se about people who use Reaper.

I have, use, and am happy with, logic.

But I also couldn't use reaper anyway because the OSX version sucks ass in its current state.

I have AND use Logic every day... It helps me get through life a little easier

you should consider to combine some vote-points, as there's more for me to choose than just one point ... if that isn't possible, the whole thing gets not tooo representative (if it can be at all) ...
nevertheless, it's a great idea to put this thread on .. hope justin reads this ...
I know! :hihi: I left out "VST" and "stability". :dog: It may not be possible to create a perfect poll before you take a poll and find out what the questions should be. Single option polls are the worst. That's why I added a catch all "not on the list" option.

Whether Justin reads this or not, it may or may not be any more useful in the end because I think most of this is already well known. Not even the numbers are all that surprising.

What I just said about Justin... Ditto. :tu:

Yeah I felt I had to vote for midi even though people tend to assume midi = piano roll editing and sequencing (and sometimes notation) whereas for me its more about the live player midi features such as good automation support and things like midi phrasing and midi fx. Ideally I'd see these as separate things.

tbh, the whole Reaper thing isn't much different to the whole Tracktion thing 3/4 years ago [sorry if this has already been said]. I say the same about R as I did about T - it seems very nice, and if it suits you, use it. For myself, I'm happy with Podium, but also use Console and NTrack, with VSTHost for debugging new items.

Through the years I've used most of the rest at one point or another (even PRO24 when Cubase was a twinkle in Charlie's eye), but settled on what I'm happy with, with a feature set where I know I'll use everything, and not get bogged down with more things than I'll need. There's rarely been a feature that I've actually missed from my chosen hosts, and when there was I've found dropping a word to the dev soon got it sorted.

I see that Reaper has some very snazzy ideas, and more power to its elbow (as it were), however I know that I just wouldn't use them, so it would be swapping hosts for no real gain. Some guys will make full use of them, so that's great and I'm pleased for them.

Overall, I'd say that tho' the market place is getting a little crowded, there's always room for one more! I'd especially like to try out ddummer's personal DAW if he ever makes it public, but there's never been any guarantee it would make it into the wild...

I assume you've been on the reaper forums? The s/n ratio there, even in relevant threads, is absurdly low. That's not a sign of a generally intelligent and helpful userbase.

There could be 90% of the users who are great people, but those people don't spend much time where it counts (in this case, their open forum). Even k-v-r is more well behaved and helpful than the reaper forum, and that's a forum specifically for a product.
